Pharrell Strikes Gold With 'G I R L'
By Ralph Bristout

Skateboard P rides off with yet another accolade.

We called it the definition of ‘Pop Perfection,’ and now less than six months since its Billboard arrival, Pharrell’s G I R L has an RIAA gold certification to match.

I Listened To Pharrell’s ‘G I R L’ AND Felt All The Feels
Since being released March 4th and debuting No. 2 (behind Rick Ross’ Mastermind), Pharrell’s through-and-through pop opus has now sold an impressive 501,742 units, earning the superhero-esque musician his first gold-certified album.

Exclusive: Pharrell Speaks On ‘G I R L’ Hitting #1
“Hopefully all the people that listen to it, if they like it, hopefully they like it 'cause they hear the intention,” P told REVOLT a while back, while discussing his timeless plans for the LP that brims of glossy sounds and unquantifiable emotions. “I wanted to make sure it was celebratory, festive, and urgent. And if I could pull that off, then it would have more of a chance of becoming a classic.” 24 weeks since the album release, G I R L is still picking up steam, whether on the charts, our eardrums, or on the airwaves. And with that said, we won't be surprised if he gets that platinum plaque before the end of the year.

good for me...there is a new blueprint

he knew HIS audience all the videos were fire and he didn't really pay for BIG marketing and promotion...

the music and the vids and the endorsements and features did all that for him.

no one remembers that cover controversy either.

Am I reading that shit correctly, Adele sold nearly 11 mil :rolleyes::hmm::dunno:

Yup. She went Diamond. Thought those days were done but Bob Marley went Diamond (but I'm sure that may be a very old album but I may be wrong) and that Journey GH is on their way to Diamond as well.

Kellz almost gold, Kendrick platinum, Mike almost gold, etc.

Yea I thought those days where over too. But damn that's a lot of albums in anytime... in todays time its like 20mil compared to the 90's  Never heard of the other person you mentioned

Again it's not about album sales anymore it's about singles. The stupid public can't listen to an album through. This is the mix tape era where people have Pandora brains. They need multiple artists who are popular not one entire album of 1 artist. These crack babies have no attention spans. Wack ass YG only sole 130k albums but I bet he a millionaire off them shitty singles he got.

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Aug. 24) totaled 3.97 million units, down 3 percent compared with the sum last week (4.11 million) and down 19 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.9 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 154.5 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (181 million).

This week's 3.97 million total is the smallest weekly sum for album sales since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. It's also the first time weekly sales have fallen below 4 million in that time span.

Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.2 million downloads, down 2 percent compared with last week (19.6 million) and down 13 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (22.1 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 754.4 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (865.4 million).

:lol::lol::yes:

I'm super shocked that Bruno Mars has damn near 5 Million albums sold off of 2 albums.

His label must be at his neck for his 3rd project.

Its not surprising that a lot of the new hip hop artist are doing under 200K. Their music is so wack, who wants to listen to a full album of that bullshit. I know their singles go certified gold & platinum, but they're being played on the radio 5 times an hour. The money they pay out to keep that shit spinning, they must barely break even.

Granted, I'm always quick to say that music wasn't meant for me, but damn :smh: .

They need to really all go indie with those type of numbers

but you have to have a hit single to sell singles and not every rapper have hit singles
