PC Gamer nuts.. I need some help

I've been using gaming laptops for about 10+ years. In a few weeks, I plan on finally getting a gaming PC. I asked some of my employees and they recommended the following. I simply just need to know if its possible to go a cheaper route before I commit. I'm hoping to be able to play some of the newer titles on max settings for a couple of years.

You dont need anything over an i5 4690k for gaming. Skylake is a gimmick. DDR4 isnt worth it imo. If you check the benchmarks on youtube.It averages only about 2-3% performance increase. The gtx 980ti is overkill if you plan on gaming at 1080p. Get the gtx 970 instead. And save yourself some money and opt for an air cooling system for your cpu. My recommendation is the cool master hyper evo 212. Is effective for mild overclocks. Without the fear it will one day leak. And fuck up your entire system.

Yeh ditch the water cooling unless over clocking.
Don't need i7 for gaming, keep it if you are going to do video editing or running VMs
get a bigger ssd if you will be playing many games
And yes match the video card to the monitor res

3rded on i7 being overkill.

DO go DDR4. Its only like a $20 difference right now between the 2 for a 16gb kit. And you'll be kicking yourself when its a couple years down the road, you wanna upgrade memory, and DDR3 is costing more than DDR4.

1. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO would be cheaper than the water cooler, but if you are set on getting a water cooler, don't get that one, get one by corsair.

2. What resolution are you playing at. If 1080p, a GTX 970 or 980 or a R9 390 would be plenty.

3. That power supply is beyond overkill, that system would probably draw no more than 450W from the wall. Try to get a 550-650W PSU.

4. Get 8 gigs of ram, you don't need 16 (you can always add more later).

5. Get a Core i5 6600k (if in stock) and overclock the hell out of it.

I never would have expected so many to say that. Ok I'll look at a i5 then.

An i5 should be good, but a lot of games are shitty ports from consoles and with VR coming out I would go i7 if you can afford it. I have an i5 and plan on upgrading to an i7 in the next year or so.

Also I would add an extra SSD, a small one (like a 120gb) for OS and apps and another or two for games.

because an I7 for gaming is jut not worth it unless you're doing video rendering, pretty much all other recommendations are on point water cooler shouldnt even enter your thoughts with an I5 just for gaming.
Also sound card not necessary onboard sound more than capable
no more than $20. for optical drive dont care what no one says and add a card reader to your setup
ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming you may wanna rethink this board they're better boards out there and the reviews aren't so great
