Paul Williams vs Erislandy Lara Judges are Suspended
Posted by: Random Hits on 7/13/2011 .

BoxingScene.com has received a copy of a letter dated July 13, 2011, from Aaron Davis, the commissioner of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, advising promoters Dan Goossen and Golden Boy Promotions, that all three judges from last Saturday's junior middleweight bout, involving Paul Williams and Erislandy Lara, have been indefinitely suspended.

Citing concerns over their scoring, Davis informed the promoters that his agency placed judges Al Bennett, Hilton Whitaker and Don Givens on suspension and all three will require additional training upon returning to boxing. After what appeared to be a dominating victory for Lara, the three judges scored a majority decision win for Williams, with scores of 116-114 (Givens), 115-114 (Whitaker) and 114-114 (Bennett). HBO had the fight scored 117-111 for Lara, as did BoxingScene.com.

Davis also noted that his agency found no evidence of corruption, but he did admit that his agency "did not provide our best officiating on July 9.”

Okay, that's an overreach. They were inexperienced judges so made a bad call. The people in charge of putting such inexperienced people (one had no championship fights on his resume) on a high profile fight are the ones who should be suspended.

I need to see the fight. this could not be as bad a call as Oscar vs Strum. Because that fight we got played like we were all stupid.

Hell, how do yall think Paul won his fight against Martinez? Those judges were somewhat experienced, but they favored Paul because he sells tickets in Atlantic City. Nobody Martinez enough to favor him in the 1st fight, but he left them no reason to fuck up the scores in the rematch. Can you say, KO!

Everybody that fights Paul in AC will have to clean his clock, from now on...especially if he got away with that travesty last weekend. Im sure that all of my boxing heads on here were begging them to stop the fight around the 10th round. I heard the decision and lost my buzz...had to get drunk all over again. :smh:

Considering how close that first fight was, this isn't even in the same ballpark.

I don't think he won the first fight, but it was a closer fight because Martinez gave away rounds mid-fight.

Lara lit Paul up each round. Paul was looking sloppy and wasn't landing.

Cosign... the first martinez-williams fight was very close...it could have gone either way but i can understand why martinez lost because he looked gassed the last 3 rounds..

but Lara DOMINATED Paul Williams... again...i just dont see how you can give Paul Williams more than 4 rounds...and those rounds werent close....Lara was clearly winning those rounds..

so this means u should have suspended the judges in:
Whitaker vs Chavez(fired really)
Whitaker vs De La Hoya

We heard them say the other night that Paul has saved his money....that's a good thing.

Actually, Paul has investments and actually has a chain of successful adult book stores as well as several chicken and waffle restaurants throughout the south.

I think it wasn´t the greatest decision but not the worst of the worst either. I think but if you watch it without the sound it probably won´t be quite the atrocious crime against humanity that everybody and the media is complaining about. However, everybody seems to think he was just a wipeout in favor of Lara and even Williams coach was saying Williams needed a knockout to win so maybe I just need to see the fight again.

Oscar needed a knockout to win. He barely won any rounds. Strum totally outboxed him. His problem was he did it against a guy that could close lots of doors for him in the US. That's is pretty much why he disappeared.

Sorry for not being specific, I was referring to the Lara vs Williams fight.

And got a bullshit decision in Germany in his favor a couple weeks back against Macklin. I didn't complain too hard about that one. It was kind of a payback being that any foreign fighter fighting in Germany has to win by KO to win at all. Dudes like Sven Ottke should not be undefeated. And why did Sturm and Abraham never find themselves sharing a ring. Sturm won the fight but I can see why he didn't get the decision. Why hasn't he faced Martinez either. Sergio's a foreign fighter, I'm sure he'd go to Germany and be happy to lay Sturm out.

If two the the best fighters can find reasons not to fight. Then it makes sense fighters lower than them can do the same. I can understand how some fighters don't try to achieve greatness. It is a job to them and they have a ceiling. I can't knock them from trying not to disappear. It is the great fighters that sidestep opponents that bother me.

Exactly one of the two reasons why Roy Jones wouldn't fight Dariusz Michalkewsi in Germany(the other being that both would make more money fighting in America at the time).

RJR sounded so emotional after that decision came down...

like he was having flash backs...

DAMN! How different would his career have been if he didn't get cheated so often
