Same. I remember those days as a youth vividly.Damn i old cause i seen him do stand up on tv
Eddie Murphy paid for his funeral. You would think that people like mr. Miyagi would have returned the favor when he was brokeRedd helped a lot of people like that but when the IRS swooped in and took just about everything he had the Eddie Murphys, Bill Cosbys Richard Pryors and a bunch of others who were making big paper at the time were no where to be found. He owed 755K, a paltry sum by Hollywood standards, and not one of them stepped up to help him out. Hell Cosby gave Spelman College 20 million just to to have a building on campus named after his wife Camille. Redd was a really generous guy and its a shame how those for whom he paved the way said in so many words, "it's your problem, fuck you".![]()

Mr. Miyagi...
He used to do standup comedy during the 60's
I should have known he patterned himself after red fox or perhaps bill cosby
Yea he’s a good actor. Would never know his English is that perfect. Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid was based on a real person too. Considered one of the greatest fighters of all time.
I don't think he could afford to give redd that type of bread. He made a decent career i wouldn't say he was rich from it.Eddie Murphy paid for his funeral. You would think that people like mr. Miyagi would have returned the favor when he was broke

Not to totally dismiss the gesture I think Eddie (and others) could have done a little more than that when he was alive.![]()
Hell, i remember when he played Hachu on Sanford and son.
I doubt youre much older than me, if at all. I swear all I remember dude from was happy days and small parts on shows like laverne and shirley, different strokes and silver spoons. Im bout to go look up some of his stuff
Not questioning that, I just feel there were black entertainers who could have easily loaned him the money to satisfy the IRS. They didn't, or wouldn't, and a a result this man who had helped so many others and open doors for the very ones who felt no obligation because Redd did it to himself, he had to face the very public humiliation of just about everything of value he owned seized by the IRS. You feel Eddie did his part to a degree even more than he had to and deserves credit. No problem with that but I just put in him in that group of blacks stars who basically sat on their hands, only to a lesser degree for the reasons you gave. Peace...What more do you want Eddie to do. He didnt know the man like that yet he respected him. He put him Harlem Nights (and overpaid him) then he paid for his funeral 2 yrs later. He did way more than he had too bro

Damn I didn't know thatOr he could have just paid his own taxes
John Witherspoon did an interview where he discussed Redd and told a story about a time when he was in debt and owed millions to the IRS. When this happened Frank Sinatra and a few other friends/entertainers performed at Redd's club free of charge on multiple nights and raised the money for him to pay off the IRS.
But Redd continued to not pay his taxes in the years following that and kept getting into trouble with the IRS which is the reason people stopped helping him.
So many people pay it forward on the quiet
