Tempers boiled over in Montreal this morning as Bernard Hopkins came face to face in advance of their May 21st return engagement at the Bell Centre in Montreal. “I wanted the fight here so I could kick his ass in his own backyard,” said Hopkins as the champion Jean Pascal sat back and yawned.
Things totally erupted when Pascal took the microphone and gave Hopkins all his championship belts. “I know you’re a thief, so I’m giving them to you now, but after May 21st, they’re staying here.” Pascal then upped the ante and accused the 46 year-old of cheating. “Are you willing to take a blood test for the fans and the rest of the world to prove you’re clean? You’re from the same family as Shane Mosley. Are you willing to take the test?”
As Hopkins got up to leave saying he would submit to any test the Quebec Commission required, Pascal stayed the aggressor and got into a shoving match and had to be physically restrained. “You’re a f-ing cheater,” the Montreal fighter screamed as Hopkins left the room.

lol, Bhop is so under his skin. I can't wait to BHOP tortures him.

take the test... then beat his ass. simple unless you are dirty.

lol, instead of an opponent trying to prove someone is on roids. they should be focusing on just beating them in the ring. these new boxing champs are pretty lame. excuses for why they might lose before they even fight. amazing.

Pascal is gonna go in mad and scared. Round one will be round 13, idk why, I see B-Hop stoppin this dude. Dude is prolly tight too. All he's hearing is "you got beaten by a 46 yr old man", "Bernard was robbed", homie just doesn't have the skills and he gasses out late too. I can only see Pascal winning by ko or robbery. A robbery is unlikely because them cats in Canada would lose too many future fights and money, who would want to go up there and fight if a fighter of Bernard's caliber is plainly robbed twice? But then again if Padcal loses they lose a chance to set up a Canadian dream match of Bute vs Pascal so.....I wouldn't wanna be in Pascal's shoes. He's got everything to lose and a whole lot to prove.

I agree with you on one side but damn, just take the test, which Bernard already said he would submit to.....unlike another dude who had a gazillion excuses as to why he couldn't do it.

Wait...what?:dunno::smh:

Bernard Hopkins admits to losing Big Money in rematch with Jean Pascal

In order to kick Jean Pascal's ass in his own backyard, Bernard Hopkins had to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of dollars. In a recent interview with WFAN in New York with Boomer and Carton, Hopkins explained how important it is for him to defeat Pascal in Montreal (the two face off for a rematch on May 21) and how he is losing money in doing so.

In regards to accepting the fight in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Hopkins stated: “In Montreal. This fight could’ve been in LA. We won the purse bid. Golden Boy won the bid, the rights to do the fight, and we had the opportunity to take this fight anywhere and Richard Schaeffer said ‘Bernard wherever you want to take this fight at we can get more money at the Staples Center’ so I sacrificed two or three hundred thousand dollars by coming to Montreal.

When pressed by the host as to why he would do that? Hopkins answered: "Because I want to kick his ass in his own backyard."
.

I am just amazed at how all these cats go into a fight and tell the other dude he is scared of him before they even throw a punch. Pascal was acting like a straight up bitch. But it is easier to sling mud than win a fight. And bhop was just talking. I doubt bhop does any additional test for a fight that is already signed. Plus he never has failed a test and doesn't have to do anything out the ordinary to prove anything. At least to me. Fuck that test talk stuff. Just get in the ring.

Sure he is going to go there to finish Pascal off, but I don't see where they would have made more money in LA...They would need a good undercard to pull in more spectators...

Now if it was in NY or in Michigan, then they might be able to pull that off

PEDs talk is fighting words for Hopkins, Pascal

By BERNARD FERNANDEZ
Philadelphia Daily News
fernanb@phillynews.com
DURING HIS 24-year professional boxing career, Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins has been awarded championship belts by the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO and The Ring magazine.

But one alphabet designation no one had ever attempted to confer upon Hopkins, at least not until Monday, is that of beneficiary of PEDs.

As in performance-enhancing drugs.

WBC light-heavyweight champ Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs), who retained his title on a controversial majority draw in a Dec. 18 matchup with Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KOs) in Quebec City, unwittingly or intentionally linked the 46-year-old B-Hop to PEDs during Monday's news conference in Montreal to hype the May 21 rematch in that city's Bell Centre.

Angry words and shoves soon were exchanged, ensuring that the lead-up to the second scrap, which is expected to draw a record Bell Centre crowd of 20,000-plus and will be televised by HBO, will have overtones of payback.

When you consider that one of the participants is Hopkins - maybe boxing's most masterful player of mind games since the young Muhammad Ali - you expected something else?

"I actually needed him to say what he said, not knowing that he would say it," Hopkins, in the unaccustomed role of aggrieved party, said of the mental boost Pascal had given him. "I do need motivation. I'm human, like everybody else.

"Now, I do have a way of camouflaging certain things. That is by design. But [Pascal] did spark something in me. I felt I had something taken away from me [the victory Hopkins and many others believe he deserved], but what he did in Montreal just took it to another level."

So, what exactly did Pascal say and do to toss a cord of logs onto the iconic Philadelphian's emotional fire?

To hear Pascal tell it, he never believed that Hopkins was into PEDs, which is why neither he nor his promoter, Yvon Michel, sought to include drug-testing in contract negotiations over and above what the WBC and Quebec Boxing Commission mandate.

"When I was asked if Bernard was on something, I said, 'No, I don't think so. He's a clean fighter. He trains good, he eats good. I don't need to ask him to take a drug test to prove that,' " Pascal said following a more-restrained news conference yesterday in New York. "But the day before the [Montreal] press conference, I told myself, 'That's a simple question. I'm going to ask it and Bernard will say yes because boxing is a clean sport and we are clean fighters.' But when I asked Bernard, he didn't respond as I thought he would. Because of that, there's a question mark right now.

"I think all sports should do blood testing. Bernard is a legend. He should want to lead by example. Ask me that question and I will answer, 'Anytime, anywhere.' "

That is Pascal's version of what transpired on Monday. Hopkins, of course, has another.

"Maybe he's been watching too much of the [Floyd] Mayweather-[Manny] Pacquiao saga," said Hopkins, referring to Mayweather's frequent and unsubstantiated allegations that Pacquiao is on the juice. "When he said Naazim Richardson, my trainer, also trained Shane Mosley [who acknowledged using PEDs some years ago], at that point everybody knew where it was going. I was thinking, 'Is he trying to say I'm a cheat?' That's when I got up to leave."

Pascal intercepted Hopkins, saying, "Take the test! Take the test!" Then he put his arm around Hopkins' shoulder. The shoving and name-calling ensued.

"Desperate people do desperate things," Hopkins said of Pascal. "He tried to recant it a little bit at the press conference in New York. [Pascal's people] say I took what he said the wrong way. I didn't take it the wrong way.

"He said what he said, then he wanted to joke around. I was, like, 'Wait a minute. You're going to insult me, my history and my hard work, and now you want to put your arm around me like we're friends?' I just shoved him to get him out of my face."

Hopkins, of course, has used the occasional crass act as the means of getting into an opponent's head. The most egregious example was when he twice threw the Puerto Rican flag to the ground before his 2001 middleweight unification bout with Felix Trinidad.

But Hopkins said if Pascal was trying to throw him off his game with the PEDs talk, it won't work.

"When I did that thing with Trinidad, can you imagine him hitting the heavy bag every day like he was trying to kill it? Then he had to fight me 8 weeks later? He had nothing left." (Hopkins won by 12th-round technical knockout.)

"I'll make Pascal pay in other ways," Hopkins continued. "He'll pay on the day when I don't feel like going to the gym because my ankle is sore or I don't feel like getting up in the morning to run. I have those moments. That's when I mentally go back to prison [Hopkins served 56 months for armed robbery], to where I came from. I create things that don't need to be created just to motivate myself.

"But because of what Pascal said, I don't have to go back that far for this fight."

Poor Pascal. He made a big mistake by challenging B-Hop in the first place instead of rematching Dawson, and now he's about to be sent out to the hospital for yappin his mouth way too much...

Screw what folks are saying about the Mosley-Pac fight, THIS fight may not end up well...at ALL...

Well, to Pascal's credit, even though he calls Bhop a cheater he's still going to fight him. Interesting how Bhop stated he would take any test required by the commission. Pretty much the same thing Pac said. I wonder if Bhop would let Pascal dictate blood testing terms outside of commission requirements. Cheater or not, I can't see Hopkins bending over for Pascal that way.

^^^^ In bold is the bingo. You can't and should not be able to do that. Pascal will remember this rematch. I can't wait to see it.

He's gonna learn the hard way, dude just called down the thunder.

But I can respect Pascal at least for rematching B-Hop. When a young paper champ like Berto wouldn't give a supposedly lower class fighter like Collazo a rematch out of fear that he actually might lose. B-Hop will do everything that worked from round 4 on. The straight right, the jab, the angles, the feints, and most importantly - them body shots were killing Pascal. The sig says it all:yes:

Hopkins said he would take any test required by the commission which is the same thing Pac said. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen anything where Hopkins said he'll do extra testing outside of what the commission requires.

The difference here is Pascal already got taken to school and screamed that shit AFTERWARDS. Now he's busy recanting what he said.

Hopkins has a talent for getting people worked up about what he's going to do but sit back and think for a second. Hopkins hasn't had a knockout in probably almost ten years (too lazy to look up the boxrec). Hopkins couldn't kayo a beyond shot Roy Jones that was even coming off of a one punch KO loss in the first round. Hopkins ain't kayoing shit and I doubt he'll be sending anyone to the hospital.

Yeah, true but I'm commenting on what Hopkins said in comparison to what the other guy you mentioned said. Hopkins limited his willingness to take tests to what the commission required, just like Pac.

Ok when B-Hop goes up to heavyweight and ko's Vitali Klitschko, I'll be the first in line screaming TAKE THE TEST!!!

He seriously hurt Pascal with body shots, but he didn't start that until the middle of the fight, I wouldn't underestimate B-Hops ability, he just ran out of time. Had it been a 15 rounder, Pascal probably would've been stopped, he was getting rocked. But I agree, a straight up ko is unlikely. A late stoppage due to accumulation of body shots and lack of stamina on Pascal's part is much more realistic.

Oh, most definitely. I don't underestimate Bhops' ability just his ability to get rid of a guy in under twelve rounds during the past ten years. Regardless, I think Hopkins would have a lot more knock out victims on his ledger had he been fighting fifteen rounders. Maybe he needs to re-pace himself for 12 rounders or something.

There is no argument or doubt if you take the test. Anyone who can't see that simple solution to any talks about cheating is an idiot.

Isn't this the same hopkins that scream and bitch about how a black fighter will never lose to a white cac  when he fought calzagi and than got his ass kick so bad, he tried to fool the ref into calling low blows.

This chump game is old, and tired like a broken record.

Didn't see the first fight huh?

well I guess Bhop will look like a cheater to some people. He is not going to do anything other than what is usually done "drug test" wise for this fight.

The fight seems like it will go down regardless but if it couldn't be made unless B-Hop took the test and he stuttered like Pac. There could only be one logical conclusion. I know you still don't get it, and I also know that you want all the fighters to be on that shit so... what is the point of continuing?

the fight is signed. pascal is just being a bitch. i know you can't recognize that.

lol, "take the test. take the test" dude is funny. he didn't say that until the fight was signed. bhop would have laughed at pascal a no where near hall of famer dictating shit to him.

Nah, it ain't about dictating shit or any of that other shit. It's about the fact that no one else has accused Hopkins of this shit except for him and most find it laughable. Unlike another fighter who's had numerous other fighters and people in the sport questioning him and still he refuses....
