Virtually anyone can say anything in his/her "own time". But "celebrities" (or anyone, really, who wants to maintain an image) cannot in the sense of keeping their public image solid - atleast not on tape or recorder (lol). Just like the president could say "well, this war is gonna net us a lot of oil and in turn net us a lot of money, fuck the war on terror, that is just a ploy" in his own time, but if this was caught on tape and made public, then this notion of "in their own time" is null and void. Being that this was caught on tape, this is a public issue and no long a matter of "in their own time."

A third grade teacher could say "I am sexually attracted to my students and I like young boys" in his own time, too. But like I said, once something is made public and is verified, said person's character is reassesed and said person becomes at the mercy of the public.
