I just want to formally announce the launch of the project from the "proposal" thread.
The initial project annoucement is here.
The premise rested on being able to put together a team from bgol to launch a successful web-based business.
Our team was officially chosen on Monday Dec 10th. One week later, the team has officially launched the project: Blunt Bit www.bluntbit.com
You can read more about things here: http://www.bluntbit.com/us/
Blunt bit is essentially a social news and entertainment website. They will curate and create original content from their unique point of view.
The team looks forward to your feedback and contributions. They're really looking forward to you guys giving them constructive feedback, opinions on the content, and support. They've essentially created the service with bgol in mind. This an opportunity to show support for one of your own. Just consider that the team has only been at it for a week. It's just the start of a long journey.
You can keep track of their progress at www.launchfactors.com
For instance, I've been keeping a daily log of their progress here
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
Day 6
Day 7 (launch)
You can see their first 90 day challenge goals here.
This blog was created to give a daily log of the entire process. I'll also write on topics related to launching a web business (or any type of startup for that matter) and I'll also answer non-project related questions on the blog. As stated, although I will only be working with those two directly, I wanted to provide a bit of a framework for others. This framework is going to be established through this project. I'll go back and refine previous posts as we go along. It's going to be a work in continuous progress.
Regarding future teams:
I'm considering it and I'm pretty sure it will happen.
I do think I want bring some clarity as to why I choose largebillsonlyplease and themainman and what will give someone a chance of being selected for the possible next round.
1. The reasons why I choose bills and themainman:
a. Complimentary skill-sets
Bills is the creative force. Themaimain is more of business man. Now they both can be creative and both understand business but they clearly have strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other
b. Temperament
Though they have much different personalities, they are both "open". By that I mean open to other's arguments, open to being criticized, etc. It's a kind of ego-less temperament that makes it much easier for two people to work together on a goal.
c. Communication
I communicated with them a lot by PM and off bgol before making the decision. Obviously, the better you know someone, the easier it is to make a judgement on their ability and decision-making. It's important for me not only to pick someone who is skilled, but someone who is more likely to put the work in.
2. If you would like to be apart of the next team(s), you can improve your odds by:
a. Being proactive in involving yourself with Blunt Bit
The easiest way to make a judgement on future behavior is by looking at past behavior. There will be a plethora of ways of getting involved with Blunt Bit: providing feedback, commenting on articles, being a content curator, sharing content, collaborating with the team, etc. I will be paying attention to those contributors and that will give you better odds when choosing the next team
b. Direct communication with me.
Simply, the better I know you, the better I can judge the likelihood of a productive process with you. This takes a lot of time. Also, the success rate is important as it will most likely be the most important factor in getting other people to take the leap. So, it's important for me to choose carefully.
The decision is no reflection on anyone's ability. It's just a decision based on the information available and then intuition. Some of you guys certainly can do great things without my assistance and there is no assurance this project will be successful in the first place. However, I like the team's chances.
Stay tuned for updates. I will use this thread to track this project and future projects. Hopefully the mods will keep it stickied for a while.
Even if you just come out of lurk-mode to give a word of support. Throw some support to the team. I'm sure it will motivate them.
