Ongoing HBO BAD thread

Most Boxing After Dark fights aren't worth creating a whole new thread about so the goal here is to put them all in one thread that progresses as they're announced and happen.

HBO shouldn't wait until the fight broadcast to do those mini-docs. They do a great job of introducing newer fighters and making their stories known, similar to what UFC does on SpikeTV.

Onto Peterson-Rios
I had a bad feeling on this fight when I saw their unofficial weights. Rios came in at 151 while Peterson was 139. It's the same feeling I get when I hear a fighter had to struggle to make weight. While it's not impossible, I don't normally side with a junior welter/super lightweight beating a junior middleweight/super welter. Then for Peterson to fight the totally wrong type of fight doomed him. Rios fought a great fight and backed up my feelings when he said he didn't feel Peterson's power. Not a fan of his wanting to fight other lightweights when he's clearly a welterweight. Not his fault, it's the fault of boxing and the people that run it.

Haven't watched Gamboa fight yet (took The Wife to see Public Enemy last night so everything else has been on the backburner).

Gamboa IMO could have taken Salido out from the beginning if he continue to let his hands go...

after the early rounds Gamboa was fighting with his hands down...not putting his punches together...and got caught a few times...

I'm excited to see Gamboa fight I just don't think he will do well against Jaun Ma.....

I really hate the day before fight weigh ins.... it really takes away from fighters fighting at their 'true' weights. I realize the concern is a fighter hurting themselves by dehydrating to make day of fight weigh ins etc, but if a fighter can't make the weight then maybe they shouldn't be in the weight class. :smh: Peterson was at a disadvantage fighting a Jr. Middleweight, even though Rios fought a good determined fight, the weight difference and size difference were ridiculous.

As far as Gamboa, I believe he is trying too hard at 28 to alter his style. Dude was their for the taking, but I believe they are trying too hard to make him a 'complete' fighter, and it's causing him to lose a lot of what got him here. He fought a good fight, but if he fights this way against JuanMa or Callabero (sp), he is in for a long night in my opinion...

Now that I've seen the Gamboa fight, I think he's in trouble against Lopez.
What's up with this hands down shit? Is that what they're teaching in the amateurs now? He clearly had the speed on Salido and I get him wanting to be less reckless and more technical but he seems to have started to believe his own hype already and that'll cost him in a fight with a top guy.

.

Man, Rios was noticeably bigger than Peterson when they stood next to each other exchanging blows. Max Kellerman was about to mention their rehydrated weights when Peterson threw the first set of low blows and I don't recall if he ever got back to it.
