Unfortunately, those lessons didn't help his son. He wrote in piece in the Washington Post in November saying that he was wrong in thinking that all of these things would protect his sons from discrimination. He wrote the piece after his bright, articulate 15yr old was involved in an incident with 2 unknown white males over the summer. He also writes about the trauma his son is dealing with now because of the incident.

Also, don't rob convenience stores and attack police officers.

I think that is a good lesson for all children. Dress nicely and always be polite in public.

What a bright articulate, dad. I am sure his children are bright and good students as well. Its sad that the few, who make many look bad, force a father to make his children dress and act a certain way. He should be commended as a concerned parent,by not taking a chance. His children may not like it as the MTV culture, praises, hip hop and "Gangsta"... I also say, to the naysayeers..Many white parents should take a lesson from his example too. Respect!!
