I'm guessing most are watching the big sports like Track and Field, Basketball, Boxing etc. Personally I love the Olympics and will watch even some of the boring sports. The worst for me is the Equestrian. Maybe I'll check out Fencing.

I'll try to follow some of the swimming. However, after week one the shit becomes endless. The 3X3 Water Basketball sounds interesting. Water Polo also seems interesting.

Volleyball Ball is must see

I was watching the men's cycling road race this morning and surprisingly actually enjoyed it... I've never been a cycling fan but following it this morning and listening to the commentary was very interesting.

The cyclists raced for just over 6 hours covering a distance of 234 miles... through the streets and up the hills leading up to Mount Fuji... a few crashes happened.

The level of fitness needed to compete that course that is unimaginable.... I get out of breath when I go on my indoors exercise bike for just 15 minutes.

Now watching the swimming races which is also entertaining ad also watched a bit of boxing this morning.

I'm a massive track and field fan though so mostly looking forward to when the track events start later next week.

Those cats are really moving out. Going the speed of cars at some stages. I caught some of the race. It appears white guys on this event.

There was one black cyclist in the group from Burkina Faso who was racing well up until the the half way distance then faded back afterwards.... That was a tough and gruelling course especially the miles going up the mountian.

I've always been a fan of swimming and diving, basketball and gymnastics.swimming and hooping I did growing up so it holds a special place in my heart. Gymnasts are the strongest people on the planet and I primarily work out using bodyweight exercises so they are a must watch. Any combat sport (boxing, martial arts) is also a must watch. In 2016 in Rio I watched fencing and couldn't stop watching. I think it was cuz this dude made a major come from behind victory. I'll watch beach volley ball too but I ain't gonna lie. It's more for glistening bodies. Oh and gotta watch track. That runs in my family

What are rules, format for 2021 Olympics 3-on-3 basketball? (usatoday.com)

3-on-3 basketball at the Tokyo Olympics: Everything you need to know about new Olympic sport
Chris Bumbaca
USA TODAY

Dates: July 24-28

What to know: It still will have the classic backyard or pickup game vibes that come with any 3-on-3 basketball game. Except for a few days, 3-on-3 will be played on the biggest stage in international sports.
The format has gained popularity not just in the United States but internationally over the past few decades. And not just in a casual sense, but competitively. With the introduction of other "street" sports in Tokyo — skateboarding, for example — 3-on-3 basketball's Olympic debut this cycle makes sense.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) adopted formal 3-on-3 rules 14 years ago, and it was first played competitively at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. FIBA has organized a 3-on-3 World Cup since 2012, and in 2017 it was selected as an Olympic sport for Tokyo.
Contests will take place at Aomi Urban Sports Park, a waterfront venue with views across the Tokyo Bay that will later host the sport climbing competition.

How it works: The basics and rules of basketball carry over into the 3-on-3 format. Dribbling, shooting, rebounding and defense remain the core tenets — and players must be able to excel in all phases of the game. With rosters set at four players per team, versatility is key and substitutions/rotations are frequent.
3-on-3 is played on half of a normal basketball court. The shot clock is set at 12 seconds, half of the 24-second clock in the NBA and much lower than the 30 seconds in college basketball. And the game hardly stops after fouls or made baskets.

There is no tip-off. Rather, a coin flip decides first possession. Winners are determined by the first to 21 points or whoever is leading after 10 minutes. If the score is tied after 10 minutes, overtime will be played — the first team to score two points wins.
Who will win a medal?USA TODAY Sports picks every medal for every Olympic event

Shots made from beyond the traditional three-point line count as two points, and baskets made inside the arc count as one. Free throws count as one point, and are awarded for fouls committed inside the arc.
The 3-on-3 game uses a ball that is size 6, compared to size 7 balls used in 5-on-5 games. The smaller size of the ball suits the speed of the game.
Players in 3-on-3 have more responsibility when it comes to strategy, since coaches are not allowed courtside.

Path to gold: Team USA boasts dominance on the basketball court, but the men will not be winning 3-on-3 gold — they didn’t even qualify.
Only eight teams make the Olympics, for both the men's and women's tournaments. The U.S. women will certainly have a shot at gold, although there is no runaway favorite.
Each team will play the other seven over four days (two games on the first three days). After the final "pool phase" game, the teams in seventh and eighth place will be eliminated.
The semifinals and medal games take place on the same day.

U.S. Athlete to Watch: Allisha Gray, women’s 3-on-3
A 2017 national champion at the University of South Carolina, Gray led all U.S. players with 39 points during last month’s qualifying tournament in Austria. Gray will play in Tokyo alongside Stefanie Dolson, Kelsey Plum and Katie Lou Samuelson.

The only thing I really want to see is Ms. Biles break the bonds of gravity.

She probably dominates her sport as much, if not more, than any other athlete ever. I admit to not being an expert in the scoring system. I do know it's based upon the degree of difficulty and least amount of errors in the routines.

it's too much sometimes. I will check out some water polo (cause they are really trying to drown each other) and every time i see handball i wish they had that in the hood. but 3x3 basketball i saw this morning is new and...weird lol. Ice Cube has an entire league and none of them are in this. some great competition whenever you see something though. hell watching mixed archery was interesting for a while.

Man, I love the Olympics. It only comes every four years so I suck it up and even try to watch some of the bullshit sports. Even in those sports the skill, talent and hard work that it took to become the best in the world. Archery is a prime example. You have to appreciate what goes into that to become the best out of eight (8) billion people.

right the small difference between reaching that goal that is pretty much your life's highlight in that one chance to get there is the story. it's such a small margin of error.

I'm having a difficult time getting an Olympic TV schedule / grid for all US (nbc usa etc) & Canada channels

Yes, well that's the way it's was supposed to work until Simone started to enter orbit. Now those racist fuckers are not scoring her with the difficulty she deserves because of some bullshit excuses. Just google it. Keep in mind when those white girls were dominating nobody said shit about changing the scoring.

I've been hearing this same complaint from others on this board. That's messed up. Sounds like when they decided to narrow the fairways after Tiger dominated his first Masters. Couldn't stop Kareem's dunking so they outlawed it. I believe they widened the lanes because of Chamberlain. They didn't change the rules when Ruth hit home runs. The net wasn't made narrower when Gretsky dominated.

I hear you loud and clear. Shit never stop. She should still win gold.

Brandie Wilkerson from the Canadian Sand/Beach volleyball team ain't hard to look at.

George Coleman Poage

George Coleman Poage was another trailblazer who faced great racial adversity during the Olympic games in St. Louis in 1904. Although many of the events were segregated, Poage became the first African American to win an Olympic medal after earning a bronze medal in both the 220-yard and 440-yard hurdles.

John Taylor became the first African American athlete to win a gold medal in athletics when the U.S. men’s medley relay team came in first place at the 1908 Summer Olympics.
