Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About it?

I mean, it's really impressive to look at but after messing with it for a couple hours now, i'm not exactly blown away.

what's supposed to be so life changing about this phone?

the first thing that i didn't like is, the home button in the middle wakes up the screen. so pretty much every time i put it in my pocket and walk around enough, the screen is gonna turn on and off! how do i disable that shit?

also, i hate the stock browser so i installed Dolphin HD and it doesn't realign the words in a paragraph to fit the screen after i pinch zoom in, like it does on my OG Evo.

there's other things that had me concerned last night but i can't recall them right now.

i'm gonna take it to work tonight and i will have about 10 hours to mess around with it.

is this just a simple case of buyer's remorse because i seem to be the only one who didn't instantly fall in love with this device?
:dunno:

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

At the end of the day: It is just a phone :smh:

Truthfully, there is nothing "mind blowing or life changing" about the phone or any other phone since they all pretty much perform the same basic functionality be it a Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola or Apple device. :smh:

My buddy has one, and apart from the bigger screen (which is nice), nothing really "WOW'ed" me about the phone. Same with the SIII. :smh:

Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful devices, nice size and bigger screens, but that's about it.

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

Yeah, I have the SIII, and I hate that Home button too.

i'm hoping there's a way to disable that shit!

just outta curiosity, what phone do you rock?

Still rocking the iPhone4. Trust me, I hate it, and I want a bigger screen. iPhone5 is a piece of shit. :smh:

Will hold out till maybe next year June, and I no doubt will most likely go with a Samsung device since they are the most impressive phones on the market today, unless something else better comes along, which I do not see Apple doing that no time soon :smh:

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

looks like its not for you,but then again its only been a day. i wanna get one because of the battery life,sd card slot and quad core but i dont care for the screen size. so i'm still on the fence

iPhones are cool but i'm surprised they didn't make the iPhone 5 display to at least 4.5". :dunno:

man, the battery is INFUCKINGCREDIBLE!!!

the battery was about 30% when i got it and i messed with it for hours and talked on it for hours more, and the damn thing didn't want to drain down!! this battery is definitely a winner!

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

Although I recognize the exaggeration for effect in the original post, there's nothing life changing about the phone. In my experience (went from Iphone 4 to the Note 2) the advantages are as follows:

1. Larger screen

2. Greater options for customization. I don't mean in the form of wallpapers, skins, or widgets because that's minor league stuff. I mean the level of customization in terms of the control you have over the operation of your phone. For example, to me the accelerometer of the IPhone was always fucked. So if you have the phone to your ear and are moving around then screen comes back on when you least expect it and you wind up "ear dialing" the keyboard. With the Note 2 (and other Android phones) you can adjust that. Honestly there are so many customization options and choices that it can be a bit overwhelming.

3. I like the fact that it's a cross between a phone and a tablet. I don't want to carry a phone, a tablet/reader, and a laptop. The screen on the Note 2 is just big enough for me that it's completely comfortable to read on and consume movies, etc.

4. Expandable memory. With the 64gig SD card I've got nearly 80 GB of space, something that would have cost over $400 with the iPhone 5. After trading in my iPhones and getting the price match to Amazon Wireless I paid about $65 for the Note 2. For that price and the phone's specs I couldn't pass it up.

So to me it was an immediate hit because it did all the things I wanted it to do (and then some). Further I was completely bored with the iOS look and wanted something different.

As someone else said, play with it for a few days and if you're not certain take it back. That's the thing with technology, there's always something better right around the corner.

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

it depends on why you bought it. if you wanted to have an all in one device this is definitely the lick.

size takes a lot of getting used, to, especially given that there are not a lot of options for cases or belt clips. but that will change if the customer base reaches critical mass.

it's an awesome tech phone. i've been so busy the last couple weeks that i cannot sit and learn the damn thing like i want to

i have buyers remorse too, but that is the nature of man. we are hunters, and the anticipation of the hunt always outweighs the capture...i'm like this on a lot of things, so be it

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

First off, how old are you??? Secondly, then why the hell did you buy the phone for???. You don't buy a phone based on hype, that's like moving or relocating to a city strictly off of hype alone or word of mouth. You buy a phone based on need, just like you move to a city based on need, not want.

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

battery life is much better, faster processor, bigger screen

You could use this phone and not get a tablet.

The OS seems to be more polished.

That about describes me - coming from an iPhone 4 and moving to a Note 2.

I've been using iPhones only for almost four years. I agree with all the reasons you gave. I would add to it:

  • The camera is superior. Great low light shooting, anti-shake setting, best photo and best face modes, face detection, panorama, burst shot, timer, scene modes and a bunch of other features. The video camera has it's own set of features including high speed and slow motion recording.
  • I like the organization options of the photo gallery. So much better thought out than on my iPhones and more thorough.
  • Even though jellybean doesn't come with flash, I still was able to easily install it.
  • All Google apps (youtube, maps, gmail, etc) are so much more thorough.
  • I being able to simply drag and drop media from my PC to my phone.
  • I like the customization options for the home page and how I can do so many of them without having to activate the "Settings" app like on iOS.
  • I like that even though in some ways the app store is not as thorough as Apple's , I can get many things that I could not get from Apple's app store - like Firefox.
  • I'm an old head with bad eyes. The big screen eats the iPhone's tiny screen.
  • I like being able to activate the phone, camera, email, google and text messaging from the lock screen
  • Google Now - eliminates the need for a number of apps.
  • Weather on my homescreen.
  • Not just one, but multiple app stores to choose from.
  • Ability to install off market apps without rooting.
  • The S-Pen. It's been useful for everything from writing grocery lists to previewing image galleries and videos to composing notes with cut and pasted pictures.
  • S voice is useful combined with Google Now to achieve thorough couch potato-ness.
  • I like the pop out browser and pop out video windows. Good for multitasking
  • And speaking of multitasking, I'm looking forward to AT&T updating the phones with multiview - for true multitasking that takes advantage of the huge screen space.

... So those are some of my faves.

To Cottonmouf: Judging from some of your comments in Apple threads, it's clear that you don't use an iPhone and that Android isn't new to you. So, excuse my raving about some of Android standard features. All of it is new to me - the phone and the O.S. Maybe you'll see some things in my list that can give you a different perspective on the Note 2.

Also, make sure to register your phone with Samsung. They will give you a coupon for 50% off any Samsung accessories for your device.

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

If you have a rooted phone and the app root explorer follow these instructions. Took me like 2 minutes and now the home button does not wake up the phone.

If you are like me I HATE the home button wake feature especially with my wallet case as the case ends up turning on the screen when its in my pocket.

You will need to locate the file in system/usr/keylayout you will need to edit gpio-keys.kl.

I used ES File Explorer with the following options checked under Root Settings: Root Explorer, Up To Root, Mount File System.

I opened the file using RB Text Editor, found Key 172 HOME and delete the word WAKE. Save and reboot and voila.

Yeah you're coming from an HTC like me.

I miss certain features from HTC like the big lock screen clock, the hide folders option in gallery and sound options

Nothing, you fell for the hype... glad you realized it... It's still not big enough to get any real work done.

Thanks,

Unless you in the mobile website version, even 5.5 inches is too small to browse the web without eye strain. You still will have issues typing and browsing website and in the desktop view of a webpage your still gonna get a little lag and swiftkey is a memory hog. Samsung threw 2 gigs into it for a reason, think about that.

battery life is much better, faster processor, bigger screen

You could use this phone and not get a tablet.

The OS seems to be more polished.

It ain't even a tablet, 7 inch nexus 7 is still too small to be a real tablet, for comfortable browsing you need a 10 inch tablet period. 7 inches is more ideal for portability and mostly reading books.

Android is selling a "experience" just like IOS, they're selling customization and a host of other features to differentiate themselves from IOS but on a phone it's not much you can really do period.

All those "features" of IOS and Android still can't come close to a regular laptop any day of the week.

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

ok OK ok, I picked mine up yesterday and so far so good, still trying to find the time to play around with it more, but I must say the battery life really is awesome, paid full price so I could do the T-Mobile $60 4G everything plan, with the insurance comes to about $67 per month which saves me $41 each month, next thing to do is find a case.

Did u install flash to urs? I did, but the opera wont except the flash. But I still have opera installed! N here in chicago, the 4g with it is off n on, but in the suburbs its always on. So when Im in the city I turn it just to 3g so it wont always be searching for that signal.. the longest I have had this battery last is 1day and 4 hours.. with 7 hours of screen time on..

Re: Ok. I Got The Galaxy Note 2. Besides the Beautiful Screen, What's so Great About

This and you add the ability to dock it and use USB mouse/keyboard, access portable harddrives and HDMI out it's a phone/tablet/pc in your pocket.

The speed is more than respectable and like he said the battery life is fucking ridiculous.

:yes::yes::yes::yes:

dock the mofo with a keyboard...hook up a mouse too and run the damn thing like a laptop.

you can run an HDMI OUT straight to a tv OR use the allshare function and connect wirelessly to the tv.

none of the above reviews mentioned samsung kies, wifi-direct, or allshare.

just wait til these cats start connecting their phones wirelessly to their desktops, other phones, tvs, etc., and transferring/watching video, pics, movies, etc., without wires... and F.A.S.T.

then, there's android beam... and transferring info back/forth on the fly without going thru itunes, etc.

going from micro-usb to a usb port and installing a portable hard drive or flash drive right to the phone and moving data.

in summary... FREEDOM & FLEXIBILITY. i've been having this g-note 1 since march/april and i'm STILL learning shit.

What kind of case are yall using for your Note 2? Sumthing sleek and durable without the bulk would be nice. Plz recommend

i recommend a trident case... got mine at sam's club. they protect without adding a lot of bulk.

MSG TO THE OP: you have 30 days or so to return it, but i highly recommend giving the phone a try and being objective. this phone is a cot damn powerhouse workhorse for me at work. i can't wait til my upgrade...hopefully, the g-note 3 or 4 will be even more functional.:yes::yes:

Got mine last week and this thing is great sex! All my people are trying to get one. Even my hardcore apple people lol!
