Apparently, season 1 covered 90% of the book because it was only supposed to be a miniseries.
Nobody expected it to do as well as it did.
If it does come back, it might be a year late because they don't have any new material yet.

Wayward Pines season 2 premiere set for May


Fans will soon be able to revisit the mysterious setting of Wayward Pines. Fox announced the drama’s second season will premiere May 25.

The 10-episode sophomore season will begin rightafter the events of season 1, with the residents of Wayward Pines battling against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation. Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) — a new resident of Wayward Pines — awakens from suspended animation and finds himself in the middle of this rebellion, as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is and help preserve the endangered human race.

Patric and two-time Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou are new additions to the cast, as are Nimrat Kaur, Kacey Rohl, and Josh Helman. Meanwhile, season 1 stars Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Terrence Howard, Toby Jones, Tim Griffin, Shannyn Sossamon, and Charlie Tahan are slated to return.

Nah. Similar but very different. A lot more violent too in the books. The show would be more of a summary based off of notes of the books.
