Official lakers vs mavs thread!!!!!!!

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

scapegoating is a fine fakers fan tradition.

all this talk about derek fisher is sad.

this is the same dude that i watched in G1 Q2 rally the fakers to erase a deficit and take a lead going in to halftime.

but times are getting desperate and out comes the "old derek fisher" talk.

all dude does at age 36 is come in, play 30+ minutes per game, doesn't bitch about getting less than 10 shots a game, doesn't turn the ball over a lot, but he's the annual scapegoat.

classy fans.

If people were bashing Kobe you would have no problem.

Fish shouldn't be playing 30 plus minutes

And he was old three years ago, and I've said it.

Funny how you big up Fish, but put down Kobe. Did your eye really blow up that big, son?

i'm no lakers fun
but everyone on their perimeter is either old
or just not good enough to match up with anyone in the playoffs sans the grizzlies since they don't have rudy

Honestly, I think Kobe should play one more season and retire. He's banged up enough, and he has five rings. There is nothing that's going to change about his legacy, so what is there left to play for?

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

Some of you dudes need help, man.

You dudes reduce every Kobe mistake and every Lakers loss to 'evidence' that Kobe is overrated.

It's not the fact that you all criticize, but the fact that you take so much pleasure in doing it that make you dudes look like 'haters'.

Do you even read your Kobe related comments? Who are you trying to convince, man? I can't even enjoy a Lakers vs thread and simply talk basketball, 'cause you dudes have to turn everything into a Kobe debate. The nigga is overrated? Ok, damn....we get it. Why do we need to know that shit every fucking game?

Sad thing is, you all think the fans are the only ones with the problem.

Every other day there is a "Kobe is the greatest" thread....

Here we are in a GAME THREAD and we aren't supposed to analyze the game?

Look at the terminology you use to even address other men...niggas?

If Dirk was fucking up we would be in here saying "Dirk is fucking up" .....doesn't mean anybody "hates" on Dirk...just means he's fuckin up.

I told you before...don't defend something so strongly that you ignore evidence to the contrary.

If the Lakers would have won Game 1 there is a good chance they would be up 2-1 right now.

When the closer clutch player doesn't close and isn't clutch ad basically shoots his team out the game were not supposed to say anything?

6 or the point record..........by any means necessary.
Probably his mindset

Inside hoops shut down their own board?

You think the Stanning is bad here, it's nothing compared to the shit that goes on there.

pride and records
his next motivation will be winning one without phil to prove he didn't need him. like he didn't need shaq.

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

who plays good on the ball defense in today's nba?

Just off the top.. I think two superstars that play good on ball defense are Chris Paul, Rondo and Lebron James... but Chris Paul gets abused by Deron Williams and used to be Billups because of their size.... and Lebron gets a lot credit for running people down and getting those blocks but watch him defend...how many times do you see him get consistently beaten on man to man defense...

Neither one of them are pippen on the perimeter or the bad boyz Dennis Rodman but they play deamn good defense.

Kobe often completely shuts it down on the defensive end. There is a difference between getting beaten and then just completely shutting it down...

Guys like Artest were brought in to take the load off of Kobe... just like Pippen became the best defender on the Bulls... but this might be a different game if Kobe either

1. player tighter defense off the ball and denied the ball to this opponent
2. rotated and challenged like on a play at the 2 minute mark with the jason terry 3.
3. didnt cheat and allow his man to spot up for easy perimeters shots

that is just in the 4th quarter.

I think it is a lack of effort in all of those situations

Gasol can try all he want and he is going to get blazed by Dirk..that is just a huge matchup problems

Kobe doesnt have a match up problem at the SG position...not like he has to defend D. Wade.... the mavs all are spot shooters...he doesnt even need to chase Ray Allen around screens and shit either...

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

Tell me what the difference is in bringing the starters in during the 7 min stretch (As usual) and the 6 minute mark like you would have done?

easy.

the bench was playing solid team D.

the starters weren't and couldn't.

as soon as they came back in, peja stojakovic and dirk nowitzki lit them up light a christmas tree. wonder why?

killing clock, reducing possessions. that's what that 1.5 minute difference meant.

but hey, you're a HS champion, so you have more coaching experience than i do.

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

?

Yep. And although dirk is playing good ball right now, Im not going to give him too much props yet...this is what he is supposed to be doing as a damn superstar..

And he was old three years ago, and I've said it.

Funny how you big up Fish, but put down Kobe. Did your eye really blow up that big, son?

how many minutes should derek fisher be getting?

and who would you give the other minutes to? if this were your squad to run.

derek fisher could play in this sorry near PG extinct and near C extinct league until he's 38 if he wanted to.

how have i big-upped derek fisher? i'm acknowledging his consistent and solid contribution, especially as he doesn't turn over the ball a lot and isn't a primadonna glory hound that needs to get up shots.

funny how you interpret telling the truth and accurately seeing the game as putting down tobe. hyper sensitive much?

hmm rondo plays good on the ball defense i agree, paul is good too, lebron i attribute more to passing lanes and chase down blocks, not that its a bad thing but i think of that more than on the ball though he is getting better.
nobody will be pippen or the bad boys, its just not in the blueprint of the game today for someone to be that. so you were right in what you said, i was wrong.

Kobe often completely shuts it down on the defensive end. There is a difference between getting beaten and then just completely shutting it down...

that's not up for debate, he does shut it down and is just downright lazy at times...that goes for artest too, to be fair. fisher works hard but just can't do it.

Guys like Artest were brought in to take the load off of Kobe... just like Pippen became the best defender on the Bulls... but this might be a different game if Kobe either

yea that's true but artest lost a step too, and the person that's killing them, neither of them can do anything about it.

1. player tighter defense off the ball and denied the ball to this opponent
2. rotated and challenged like on a play at the 2 minute mark with the jason terry 3.
3. didnt cheat and allow his man to spot up for easy perimeters shots

that comes with effort and fundamentals both of those are breaking down at the same time which is never good.

that is just in the 4th quarter.

I think it is a lack of effort in all of those situations

i agree
Gasol can try all he want and he is going to get blazed by Dirk..that is just a huge matchup problems

yup and that's not on gasol he just inst built to guard dirk. it goes to their pick and roll defense too, they still havent made the adjustment. all last series he was constantly on chris paul after the switch...like why?

Kobe doesnt have a match up problem at the SG position...not like he has to defend D. Wade.... the mavs all are spot shooters...he doesnt even need to chase Ray Allen around screens and shit either...

yup i agree
but like i said the person that if the key they have no answer for
odom gets posted up
gasol/bynum get drove on
and the mavs have 7 footers to match up with them so they don't even command a double team on the offensive end.

pride and records
his next motivation will be winning one without phil to prove he didn't need him. like he didn't need shaq.

But he needed Gasol. Man you always are going to have a "need" when it comes to winning titles.

Nobody does it by themselves. You're absolutely right though. He'll want to prove that but he doesn't necessarily need to do so. His passion for the game will not let him retire so soon.

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

i have to give dirk props though, he gets it. he could easily just fold...but he isn't he's welcoming it. its about damn time but still great to watch nonetheless

I think I'm just being selfish.

I'm tired of looking at that nigga. It was interesting some years back when he would pull off amazing moves, and go on insane scoring streaks.

Now?

He's mortal relative to what he used to be. I like extreme performers***; Athletes who give me a sense that they can just do some historic or amazing shit every time I watch them. I am far from a basketball purist. I just like to see cats who can do next level shit.

Nothing Kobe can do nowadays will provide me that thrill that he used to. At this point, I'm watching out of force of habit.

Maybe I need to tune into some other sports, 'cause no one is basketball is interesting to me. There are some great players, no doubt - but I want to see someone score seventy plus; go on a streak of fifty point games; challenge Wilt's records...

...shit like that.

***I created a thread asking why aren't there any 'extreme performers', and cat's treated my thread like I posted a tranny. :lol: Ol' low standard ass niggas...

Yo...anyone know offhand... has a defending champion ever been swept out of the playoffs the following season...

edit...nevermind... my got-damn pistons did off of back to back titles... swept out by the bulls...

 i'm not saying he didn't need them
im just saying in his own mind what he'll be playing for and believing and telling himself

he's needed everyone that he's ever played with that played significant crucial minutes to win every championship he has won PERIOD.

shaq has won without kobe as well, and shaq took another guard to the finals before he even got to kobe.
but i can see him sticking around for records

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

good, because he hasn't been the player people have been making him out to be.

he's played O pretty well, but his D is still suspect.

also, he hasn't been the foundation the mavericks will need for 4 full quarters yet.

in G2, Q3 and Q4, there were 3 minute stretches where the mavericks needed him to provide steadying buckets, but did not.

same thing happened again tonight in Q4.

This is funny.

i need to check...but i edited my post... my pistons got swept out the same way the lakers might... coming off of back to back titles and then the bulls ran through us

 the bulls did do it to the heat the year after they won against the mavs...then lost to guess who? the pistons...:lol: full circle

Exactly...

I wonder do people really watch the game or just look to see who made the shot/slam?

Or...

Just regurgitate the ESPN talking points to try to sound intelligent?

All I know is...

As impressive as Dallas winning is..it's how they won that really gets me.

Losing the lead, getting it back late in the 4th, defensive stops, and clutch free throw shooting.

Miami would not have beaten these Mavs.

this is a new mavs team, tonight proved it.
they could've said fuck it we can win next game and go back 3-1
or give them no hope and go up 3-0
they chose 3-0 and played like they were down 0-2 with simple basketball
i respect them.

Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!

god damn i need to find out coach jackson's publisher and invest now, because that shit is gonna make a mint!

I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to say.

It's disappointing that he is going to go out a loser but he chose to be in that situation

Kidd defense on Kobe was verrrrrry underrated this game...Kobe couldnt shake him whatsoever...couldnt even get his usual bevy of gratuity Free throws
