Re: mavs thread!!!!!!!
I made about 3 threads during the season about the Lakers inability to defend on the perimeter..but most Lakers fans said it wasnt a problem.... The team is just slow...they cant close out on perimeters players or if they do, the offensive player can go right around them...and their defense on the pick and roll is laughable...
Time to bring in some youth....
Im not going to blame the game on Kobe although he made some mistakes... but it should be very clear that Kobe is truly a one-dimension player now. He hasnt had a dunk in this series i dont think...he cant finish at the basket...and really cant defend on the perimeter...
the lakers do not have a player that plays on the perimeter that can guard any point top point guard in the nba. fisher cannot get it done anymore blake is a backup for a reason and lacks the foot speed to keep up.
and part of this is on phil jackson as well because i refuse to believe that they can't make 1 adjustment in order to defend the 1 glaring weakness in their defense which is the pick and roll.
dirk is murdering them...odom is too small he posts him up and shoots over him and gasol/bynum are too slow so he drives right around them...kobe is too little and so is artest he just shoots over the top of them, there's literally nothing they can do.
and as far as kobe goes, they don't have a shooter so he has no room to operate. they sag off of everyone else because there is no fear or room to not leave someone. so there's always help. and gasol/bynum aren't spacing the floor out or scoring enough buckets or commanding a double team so there really is no room for him to get to the rim.
last series the hornets had to double the big men, so you saw kobe get in the lane and score those buckets and do those dunks
this series the mavs have the same height and kobe doesn't have a wing player that commands serious respect on the offensive end.
best lineup for the lakers as of right now would be brown, kobe, odom, gasol, bynum.
have kobe handle the ball triple post offense and have brown leak out for fast breaks as well as catch lobs. have odom run the offense and make the post entries and rub off those entry passes for screens and have bynum clean up everything else. while kobe sets up weak side for ball reversal and advantages. if that lineup is on the floor the mavs have to adjust and get bigger, while taking their offensive potency off the court. they can't put in terry, or jj because of defensive liability.
mavs best lineup offensively is chandler/haywood. dirk, peja, terry and kidd
have kidd bring the ball up. run the pick and roll with dirk and chandler/haywood because it'll be the 4 and the 5 guarding those two, so when the lakers switch dirk will guaranteed be matched up with someone who can't guard him. and have peja and terry float on the wings so if they do double they can hit the open jumpers. all of it runs through dirk and kidd gets back for defensive purposes.
just my thoughts
