*********Official Lakers vs. Celtics NBA Finals Thread********

Kobe is great but I have such a hard time putting him in that rarified air after a performance like this in a game 7...and its not the first time.
MJ 1996 finals game 6

5-19 26% FG 22pts, 7ast, 9 rebs, 2stls, 5tos

Kobe 2010 finals game 7

6-24 25% 23pts, 2ast, 15 rebs, 1stl 4tos

Now, before you guys get sensitive, I'm not saying Kobe's better. But for someone who's the obvious GOAT, he's had a poor game 7 in the finals.

I'm starting to get tired of the revisionist history and nostalgia where MJ is concerned.

The Boston Celtics defense is also a much better defense than the Seattle Supersonics.

He shot poorly, very poorly, but he hit shots when they mattered, hit free throws when they mattered, played great defense and rebounded the ball like his life depended on it.

Like I said in another thread, Kobe's biggest issue is that his emotions can get the best of him. A lot of his shots were good looks, and a lot were terrible looks - some terrible because the Celtics defense was stingy, some terrible because he just took plain ole dumb shots.

it wasn't a straight up trade.

"Brown was traded along with Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the draft rights to Marc Gasol, and the Lakers' 2008 and 2010 first-round draft picks for Pau Gasol"

they got 6 players and some cash for gasol. they made out like a bandit if u just go by volume. but if u go by success and championships won, the lakers are STILL laughin all the way 2 the bank

They probably could've traded a jumbo bag of Chili Cheese Fritos and still gotten Pau Gasol the way they let him go for Kwame Brown.

He has to improve his jumpshot...he is a pg but his shot becomes a liability

I'm not too sure he doesn't have a jumpshot. I know it was just the All star weekend and it was HORSE but he went head to head with Kevin Durant who is probably the best jump shooter in the NBA. He has range. I don't know if its a focus thing or what but he'll get more consistent with it in the offseason. Tony Parker was just like him. Couldn't hit shit. Now he's a threat from mid range and 3.

I'm too drained to talk shit. Congrats Boston. They had a great season. Lets go LA!!!!

And it's not really his shot, it's his lack of confidence in his shot. The guy isn't Ray Allen accurate but he is a decent shooter when he shoots it with confidence.

Then he must be a low self esteem having Nigga then cuz I've never seen him consistently hit shit!!! :D

From Nobody:

Here's a stat.

What NBA player won a finals MVP and shot 5-19 in the closeout game?

I'll give you the answer - Michael Jordan in the 96 finals.

Does that mean Michael Jordan is no Jordan?

That was a tough series for MJ against the glove..... but you have to really search to find mediocre closeout games for MJ... Kobe really hasnt had one defining closeout game in the finals yet though...

but, he will get another try

:lol::lol::lol: Man all I see is Marc Gasol. That's it. That's the only one up there worth a damn and he's no Pau Gasol at all. Them niggas had Marc Gasol and still fucked around and drafted Thabeet. That trade was bullshit. BULLSHIT. A Lakers draft pick isn't worth anything more than a 2nd round pick. They pick last every y ear.

13 Point 3rd quarter lead. Terrible game by Kobe. And the Celtics still lose.

Is this the biggest choke in NBA History?

man, it's gotta be close to it. to have the lakers down by 13 in the third quarter and only shooting 28%, u gotta know it's up there in choke history

Let me add - earlier in this game i made a comment overlooked by many.

This game, this particular game was not about offense.

It was about DEFENSE. Which team held their defense the longest.

Cats only focus on one side of the ball. In the end, all that matters is the W.

You say shit about don't compare him to MJ - guess what, all that matters is that Kobe has another ring. And with a poor shooting game, he still contributed heavily on the boards (the team who's won the rebounding game won every game - the most important aspect of the series), played fantastic defense, and LA isn't in the finals without Kobe. This is fact.

His only fuckup was trying to hit crazy shots early on and in parts of the third quarter. He even admitted to that.

man...from this point forward can we use someone else besides Ray Allen....seriously

you knew it was going to happen though...you could feel it all game long...they never stretched that lead out like they should have..

I see all the posts about Kobe playing like shit but isn't Boston's defensive scheme specifically designed to have Kobe play like this? He was the most consistent player in this series on either team.

Kobe is a bitch because of a fist pump? I swear Michael Jordan fans are some of the biggest babies on earth.

Pau was the most consistent player out there and he was robbed of the MVP

I had a feeling Boston would blow it. They've been doing it all season and only blew game 1 of the Cleveland series. They got lucky game 5 but that shit ran out tonight.

Vs. Orlando - 30 points, 6 rebs 5ast 2steals, 4 blocks.

That's a pretty good game.

He hasn't done what Jordan has done, of course. But in the end, 5 championships, 2 finals MVPs, 1 regular season MVP.....

.....and counting.

Remember, he's only 31. If he takes summers off, paces his game during the season, refine the weaker aspects of his game a little more, and if LA brings in another perimeter ballhandler, he could win more titles.

Buss just needs to pay Phil Jackson his money and keep him there... you need Phil to manage players like Kobe and Artest...

and then you know the Lakers are going to make the right moves with personnel.

I dont see any reason why they cant be in the hunt for the next 2-3 years...
