Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua went face-to-face for the first time ahead of their Dec. 19 clash. MMA Fighting was on scene for Friday's Paul vs. Joshua press conference in Miami, and when the two fighters squared off, Joshua looked gigantic compared to Paul — which opened up a lot of eyeballs...
I don't get this decision. Bud was on the table, and even thoughhe'sa GREAT fighter, Bud is closer in size to Jake. But maybe Jake knows Bud would really put his hand on Jake.
But to pick AJ means,
A) Jake is a glutton for punishment or
B) (A truly scary option,) Jake really believes he can rise to the challenge and win!

"Paul usually fights as a cruiserweight, with a maximum weight of 200 pounds at weigh-ins.... Joshua is a towering figure at 6 feet, 6 inches and a consistent heavyweight at over 250 pounds in his recent fights.
Joshua will be facing a weight limit of 245 pounds for his bout against Paul. This weight restriction is designed to ensure a more balanced and competitive fight."
Jake's last fight the catch weight was 200 but just before his ring entrance he weighted 209lbs. Jake did get up to 227 lbs vs Mike Tyson, but he had noticeably less speed. I'm not sure about power because he never really hit / hurt Tyson.
His "catch weight" for Davis was 195, so I'd expected him to be around 200 as of 2-3 weeks ago, until the Davis fight was canceled.
Who knows how long Jake has been in negotiations with AJ for this fight, but lets say its about 2 weeks. Then he has about 3 weeks total to gain as much muscle as possible. Then that would give him about 2 weeks to then train and increase his speed and cut weight. And add some rest and recovery days to be safe.
(*Rough math based on 45 days from November 4th to fight night December 19th)
AJ is coming off an impressive KO his last fight and seemed to be in the better shape of the last 4/5 fights.
AND he has a new coach that he feels trains to his strengths while improving his weaknesses.....
if Jake comes in over 225 lbs, I don't think he has a great chance against AJ. But he could surprise me, I'm not sure how easy it would be for him to bulk up 20lbs from his normal and stay competitive
to give up that much reach and weight as a relatively new boxer to a "champ"...... eeek
