Official - Better Call Saul - Discussion Thread

i think the chuck scene showed how much he wanted to be accepted by his brother even the love of the time machine was due to jimmy looking up to chuck. and also remind us how chuck felt about jimmy. when told him he was picking up his food and newspaper and clothes was because he was his brother and chuck would do the same for him. the look on chuck face let us know chuck wouldn't .

i peeped that as well
Jimmy always loved and looked up to Chuck…
But it seems like Chuck barely gave a fuck about Jimmy

my interpretation was that wanted to follow Kim’s lead come clean, protect her from potential civil suit and kill Saul/revert back to Jimmy. He started his confession as Saul but ended it calling himself Jimmy. He even admitted to his culpability in Chuck’s downfall which had nothing to do with the case.

That part really bothered me.

Chuck deserved to have his malpractice insurance revoked because he and HHM were committing gross malpractice.

The transcripts of Jimmy's bar hearing not only proved that Chuck was mentally unstable, it also showed that the firm was keeping sensitive legal documents in an unsecured fire trap. They were lucky that they didn't lose all of their clients from this unethical behavior.

Even worse, Howard conned the elderly sandpiper residents into keeping the suit going past the end of their natural lives just so that they could settle for enough money to keep the firm alive.

Now when Jimmy goes to jail he takes all the blame on himself as if it's somehow the 'right thing' to do?

They were every bit as dirty as he was!

Then he wants to talk about the fine upstanding FBI agents who are dead because of him? Two men who physically abused suspects, disregarded their right to an attorney, Harassed sex workers and frequently used racist language on the job. That's just off the top of my head.

They didn't die because of Saul Goodman, they died because they were crooked cops who's sins eventually caught up to them.

So for Jimmy to go in front of the judge hang his head in shame and act like he was Satan's stepchild is absurd!

Even worse, he invited the so-called love of his life so that she could watch the shit show of him throwing his life away.

That's why this ending was a cringe-worthy slap in the face to all the fans.

um, i think it was a weird dependence of love. He wanted jimmy around so he could always be the big shit. Its why he hired him on the firm. He needed him around to boost his ego. He might think he was helping him get out of jail and looking after him as love but it was self-righteous bs to help his ego.

mike killed the dude building the lab for making it hot by telling folks in the bar about it. the workers flew back home. after handling lalo, and gus meeting with the dons he told mike to find someone to finish it. they never showed who finished it.
Yea, that's my point. They left that open, so another group of engineers knows of the lab.

86 years...

All that for redemption in the eyes of Kim. He never crossed the line (in terms of directly murdering someone).

Definitely didn't like the ending.

i thought it was brilliant imo
better call saul was always about jimmy's relationship with chuck and then kim. they always thought he was slippin jimmy and would never change.

had they believed he could change he never would have gotten close to mike-which led to meeting lalo and the cartel-which ultimately led to meeting walt and the events that happened in breaking bad.

in the finale after finding out that kim confessed and did the right thing-he showed her he could too(at the cost of his freedom).

That's not true.

Jimmy's involvement with Mike started with his scam on the Kettlemans. It had nothing to do with Chuck.

He may have done it on Kim's behalf, but she never put him up to it. In fact, he made a point of making sure she didn't know anything about because he knew she wouldn't approve.

It could never be better since Walter White/Heisenberg was a for more compelling character than Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman could dream of being.

Walter White was an amazing character, but Jimmy McGill touched my soul in a way that no other character in the history of TV ever has.

My wife and I used to be scam artists. Oddly enough, her name was a Yoruba version of Kim.
After she died I got connected with a crew that pushed phony memorabilia for the Russian mob.

So I can completely relate to the struggles of trying to tailor an illegal skill set to a legitimate world. Folks who will always see you as a criminal no matter what you do. Figures from the past trying to pull you back into the game.

Most of all, I know what it's like to have the kind of background that makes you hyper aware that all of the institutions and people who look down on you are every bit as dirty as the people in your former life.

Bob Odenkirk and the writers of this show captured this perfectly! The mindset, the situations, the people you meet on the way up and the way down, every single nuance of that life was crafted and displayed in a way that I never thought possible.

By the way, in case you're wondering why I'm talking about this, three words, statute of limitations.

Bittersweet ending to Better Call Saul but im somewhat satisfied with it because the story came full circle. Back to the root of what could have been and the regrets of going down certain paths in life but put in place by situations you couldnt control and eventually lost control of

Was I the only hoping someone would have put a bullet in Kim's head? She was an evil cunt, along with Saul, who got away with everything in this show. At least, she should have got 30 years.

I don't know if he was trying to redeem himself for Kim.

His attorney told him on the plane that Howard's widow was going after Kim for everything so he decided he would jump in front of the bullet to protect her.

I would have taken the 7 years and figured out a way to help her from the outside.

It wasn't like Kim was innocent. She knew what she was doing.

Saul is a simp for doing that. I ain't doing 86 years for no girl, especially one that aint mines.

Not to mention, Saul rejecting the plea deal he negotiated and doing time doesn't mean Kim is absolved from a civil liability standpoint.
She can still be sued by Howard's widow. Just dumb overall on Saul's part.

everything he did directly or indirectly in the show was about his relationship with chuck-then kim when he died.

even the evcents in breaking bad as seen in BCS-he delved into the criminal underbelly because kim left him

I think Vince could have come up with a better ending for BCS. He delivered on the Breaking Bad ending. He learned from The Sopranos bullshit ending for Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul ending left me a little underwhelmed I must say. Still an amazing show though. LOL @ whoever said Kim raw. LOL. fo sho

He was already a cartel lawyer in season 5. He committed a felony burglary before they were married.

Chuck was somewhat responsible, but only because he cut off Jimmy's legitimate source of income which caused him to resort to other means to stay afloat.

However, before Chuck died Jimmy was already fabricating evidence for his clients and committing fraud with Marco. The flashback scenes show that Saul Goodman was already one of his personas long before he came to Albuquerque.

Jimmy had been a criminal since the day he first took that money out of his father's till. He kept committing crimes to some extent or other for the rest of his life. He would have done the same even if Chuck or Kim had never existed.
