Official Apple Tablet (general tablet market) thread. Constantly updated

Must be for kids. Fuck an "app"

I download music for free from here and software.

I must be getting old, cause without upgradeable storage, camera and a real OS I can't fuck with it.

When they finally release the real one, it should at least have what I can get on a netbook. :smh:

I dunno about upradeable storage- I gives a fuck about that

but no camera is a HUGE disappointment. Guess they had to keep that out to keep the prive point low

Imagine with the processor they can put in something that size, how GOOD the camera can be in that bitch?

Yeah, that would easily add a couple hundred to the price.

And as far as OS? - please

by real OS.. please don't tell me you mean Windoze.

What's wrong with windows 7??

I also must be the only guy with a working copy of Vista, I haven't had a crash, lost a bit of data or blue screen in 2 years.

But I was referring to OSX

That point right there is really something I think they are banking on, not just Apple, but all of the companies.

which is what i love about haters... any haters not just the apple ones..

a lot of those ideas/tech will also be done by other companies, then the hater has to swallow their pride cause now all of a sudden their favorite company or the company not named apple is also doing it..

I'm a mac consumer. Owned a g5 tower, iMac 24", MacBook, MacBook pro, had the 2g, 3g, and as I'm posting I'm typing this on a 3gs iPhone.

With that said, the tablet is weak. No multitasking at all. Ray was a huge ball to drop. As it is it's nothing more than a larger iPhone with more bells and whistles. Nothing more. It needed to have a full web browser, multitasking, a way for the user to dictate where they could store files. Why have 64gigs if it doesn't let you do with it what you please?

This machine also shuts out people who have iPhones. Who's going to want to buy a tablet that does pretty much thesame things as the phone and pay an ADDITIONAL 30 a month to AT&T? Keep in mind that when the 3g version of the tablet drops we'd be two or three months away from the new iPhone announcement.

This tablet should have been a bridge between the iPhone and MacBook. Instead it sits in the iPhone/iPod touch line.

This is a great buy if you do not have an iPhone. If you have an iPhone, or are looking for a portable machine like a jetbook, this is not for you. Apple really got lazy with this machine.

Pretty much, I was ready to order if it had what I was expecting. I like the physical design of it looks great, but iphone os:smh: for 700 bucks because I would need atleast the 64gb wifi:smh:.

I was expecting a modified osx that can multi task with custom built video and photo editing programs that could be done with just touch. Music creation and editing program something that could be like your studio on the go all with touch interface. Maybe more powerful games with wireless Bluetooth controllers xbox style where you could start up some hardcore gaming anywhere and a front facing camera for video conference, Im sure this device will sale well but im sure this is not what the tech crowd was expecting but I guess it wasnt built for us.

Honestly I would rather run windows 7 on the hardware. I have a windows 7 tablet software runs good but the hardware is kinda clunky. If there ever is a way to get windows 7 on this hardware i might pick one up on ebay for cheap

Well for me, I don't want to carry around an extra drive if I want to watch movies. My netbook has a 250 gig drive, so I can load up 30+ movies when I want.

64 gigs is for the one that costs as much as two netbooks. That is a deal breaker for me.

Ok, I am listening to CNBC now about the iPAD.

We need to refresh laptops in our company, all 4 of us LOL...

Let me understand, what is the advantage of the iPAD over other tablet PC's already out there?

Thx!

If you think about it, this device is not really a 'replacement' for a full laptop. :smh:

If you need the 'computing power' of a full laptop........... get a laptop.

Like other have said in this thread, I agree the TRUE advantage will be 3rd-party software development & content deals.

For Example:

If video game developers ever seriously decided to start making games for this device... it could give ALL the 'console guys' a serious run for their money.

Because the gaming industry is a LARGER industry than the movie industry, revenue-wise. And the only 'portable' device that dominates that market is the PSP.

AFAIK, I haven't seen many game developers rushing to make games for Tablet PCs. :smh::confused:

Imagine kids playing Madden Football on the bus, or in a car, or on the subway, or on a plane with this thing.

you have to look at things from a business perspective.

the tablet was the only announcement today. they HAD to launch that shit this quarter. they need a revenue driver for the quarter since they don't have any new updates to the rest of their product line. no new towers, MBPs to drive sales.

Q2 will be the new iPhone and with that there will be iPhone OS 4.0 which should include multi-tasking. Apple may be late to the game with shit, but when they do do it, they get it right as evident by cut/paste that debut on OS 3.0. new hardware?

Q3 will have a new iPod something or another. new hardware?
Q4 will be holiday sale.

this is a publicly traded company that has projections it has to make and surpass to satisfy The Street.

I feel ya. I actually just noticed what you were saying about the OS. That's a bad look too.

BUT, I was already in the market for a kindle anyway, so I'm in on this.

Plus, I've been bugging myself to start learning developing. That just appeals to me as an intellectual property stream, and a playground for ideas, which is what I love.

Apple iPad Specs at a Glance

http://www.tabletcommunity.com/apple-ipad-specs/

Apple has published a page of iPad specs detailing the capacities, dimensions, and features of the device. According to the page, the device is 9.56" tall and 7.47" wide, with a depth of just 0.5" and a weight of 1.5 pounds. Units with the 3G option weigh 1.6 pounds.

The screen has a resolution of 1024 x 768 (132 pixels per inch) on a 9.7" (diagonal) display. The screen itself resists fingerprints through an oleophobic coating. It will play 720p HD video at 30 frames per second, though true 720p resolution is 1280 x 720.

Apple is offering the iPad in either a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB capacities, all of which are built around a 1GHz Apple A4 processor. The device has up to 10 hours of battery life between charges with up to one month of standby time.

It includes an iPhone/iPod Dock connector, a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, and has a built-in microphone and speakers. WiFi + 3G versions of the unit also include a SIM card tray.

The device includes a built-in digital compass like the iPhone 3GS, as well as an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor. The WiFi + 3G model includes assisted GPS, as well as cellular data connection through 3G.

Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 9.0 or later

Internet access

Windows system requirements
PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7, Windows Vista; Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 9.0 or later
iTunes Store account
Internet access

true, true :D
but you get the point.

none of those devices have the 'screen size' as this one.
so i expect we will be seeing larger versions on the market later this year.
Nintendo is releasing a larger screen DS in the near future. They will continue to dominate the handheld market. Sony nor Apple will be able to break their hold on the market.

20 Things I Already Know About Apple's Ultra-Hyped "Tablet"

1. It will make you want one.

2. It will be missing something "essential".

3. It will have one really surprising feature.

4. It will singlehandedly re-monetize some waning industry.

5. It will be Time Magazine's device of the year.

6. It will have a short battery life.

7. It will standardize at least one technology.

8. Steve Ballmer will say it's too expensive and too limiting.

9. Companies will start playing catch-up. Their products will all be deemed "iTablet/iSlate/iPad killers"

10. All other similar products will be compared to it in their reviews.

11. At least one major critic will hate it on principle alone, then he will actually try it for a week.
It will become his main machine and he will write a story on his transition to the device.
:roflmao3:

12. People will sarcastically say that it does everything including making you coffee. This will somehow never get old.

13. At least one company will make an absolutely ridiculous and useless peripheral for it.

14. A group of people will say they're waiting until it has "x" feature before they buy one. It will get that feature.
They still won't buy it.
:roflmao2:

15. Almost all cases for the device will be way too expensive.

16. It will somehow be used in the military.

17. You'll eventually get over it's name.

18. Analysts will claim that it bridges the iPhone to Mac gap, thus helping the "halo" effect, without any evidence.

19. Early adopters will be heart broken when v2 of the product comes out.

20. People will say Apple did an upgrade of the device too quickly. Steve Jobs will tell them to get over it. :itsawrap:

this is where the deal with LaLa comes into place. streaming content from a cloud. Apple wants you to purchase from their media stores cause it means that you are buying their product and it gives them leverage with the media companies. the more media companies in their store the more people will be apt to buy their product.

having your purchased content available via an iTunes cloud will be a win for Apple. keep in mind, most of the world doesn't go to BGOL or torrents or rapidshare to get their content. people still purchase legally.

 MOST of this shit is so true!!

all of this is TRUE:lol::lol::lol:

Like JD said, wait for the 2nd gen or 3rd gen, instead of being the 1st gen beta testers, while they fix all the bugs. I think all the companies should have all the kinks worked out by 3rd gen. Apple, HP, Archos, HTC, etc.

Main things I know are more likely to have issues that will come out in 6 months - finish, build quality, battery.
Big question mark is the new processor.

I may not wait for 2nd gen if I dont have to aka no major problems for 6 months. I waited awhile to pick up a unibody mbp and waited til end of 2nd gen to pick up a touch.

Yeah no multitask is gonna be tough. Kinda makes it seem crippled. Again I look at it more as a Kindle on HGH than I see it as an ipod.
Does the shit even have abuiltin mic or cam?

shouldn't be too many bugs, unless hardware related. Its pretty much the same OS as the iPhone.

cosign - im looking for some finish quality smudges get nasty types of things

The pogo stylus should work the same...
http://tenonedesign.com/stylus.php

iTunes allows you to play DRM songs on up to 4 computers. so there shouldn't be an issue with the books.

I saw this. When I get a handle on the projects I'm working on now I'll cop an iPad and port a couple of my apps to the app store. I'll probably have you kats beta test first.

:cool::cool:

DRM has already be dropped from iTunes. Even if they try it with e-books, there WILL be a way around it. :D

word but the stakes may be higher for e-books than with music- im guessing most publishers except textbook pubs will be drooling at the chance to make money again.

some humor from lifehacker

It had potential, and most defiantly failed to meet it. It missed off so many great things.

However, after saying that, it will be good for other manufactures to see where Apple fell (USB ports for thumbdrives/external keyboards) and make a better tablet.

I was expecting something new, innovative, rather than a iPhone which has been made bigger. Reply

Zombie Ms. Skittles 12:21 PM

@tylerf: Sooo what you're saying is that the iPad is...a maxi?

That name will never stop amusing me. It's going down with the Wii.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

fuckin maxipod

Fuck them other videos, this is the TRUE iPad Announcement and Crowd Reaction

I feel what you saying and like I said I don't doubt this thing is going to sell regardless and im sure future iphone os updates and hardware updates will address some of the issues. I can already see gen 2 next year starting at 64gb wifi and 3g and the camera for 599 with 128gb and 250gb available. My main problem is with the iphone os in general but I understand why this did it just not a device for me at this time.

Nintendo is releasing a larger screen DS in the near future. They will continue to dominate the handheld market. Sony nor Apple will be able to break their hold on the market.

Dunno about that. :dunno:
Time will tell, tho.

The advantage that the new iPad device is its ability to DO OTHER THINGS besides just play games.

Nintendo's newest device will most likely only focus on 'gaming'. :dunno:

This Apple device will be about, games + [fill in the blank... then keep adding stuff]

But, it really all depends on 3rd-party developers, I'd say.

Because if a video game development company is looking for another 'revenue source' aside from only Nintendo, Sony, or Xbox...

That could make all the difference.
