Not so sure why ya'll think this is a FAIL.

When you think about it....

If it has the iPod / iPhone OS, chances are... this device is the one that could really open the floodgates for... the App Store.

If demand is as high among the "fanboys" as you think... that only bodes well for Apple.

Because even more developers will want to contribute / sell better software that can run on a LARGER display.

Which in turn, could possibly result in the App Store dominating software market... the same way that iTunes dominates music.

These hatin, non progressive negroid don't understand this. The app store has generated millions and created a shit load of opportunity for DEVELOPERS TO GET PAID.

Most niggas on this board are dumb as fuck, never having passed algebra n shit, so of course they wouldn't dream about coding an app and making money.

Yep, and the big deal for me is that NO CONTRACT is required for 3G. I'll cop one of these and finally start developing these apps I had on hold.

this is a new platform for apple. it's a hybrid between a Kindle (e-books)/ and a netbook. what will separate this device from the competition is twofold: the apps that developers make for it (we see how successful this is with the iPhone/iPod Touch) and the content deals that Apple will make this year for the store (books, tv, movies). these 2 areas is where Apple will win and beat out competitors. any and all media will work great with this compared to the options available today.

would you rather have a Kindle or this? would you rather have a netbook than this?

down the road this will be a win for Jobs. people can't see that right now cause of all the rumors and hype and anticipation leading up to things.

There are tons of people out there that want a mac can't come up with the coin to get one. That $499 price tag will definitely make them get one now. If they are iphone owners they'll definitely jump at the opportunity.

Let's be real here. Apple's iTunes store success is unparalleled. This is another opportunity here to pull in even more revenues through the store. That's just smart business right there.

I kinda understand your point, but this is not a worthy replacement for the true Kindle user. E-ink is low energy allowing 7000 page turns between charges. Granted it is ugly and grayscale but so are most books that we read. iPad and its 3 hour charge is not gonna replace an ereader for serious bookheads. At least I don't think it will.

the battery last 10 hours so lets say that is probably actually between 7.5 and 8 hours of actual use. where do you get 3 hours from? If Sony and Kindle want to stay in competition with this thing they are going to have to cut their prices drastically.

Considering that the general public still has issues navigating a computer, a stripped down simplified OS makes sense. The average computer user just surfs the web and types up pages. This is perfect for the average college student. Data is literally at your fingertips.

this is a game changer.

some background:
i'm working on a coffee table book. my agent has been unsuccessful selling it to a publisher because part of my plan was to make the book integrated with additional content and a strong digital plan. the publisher couldn't understand it cause it's foreign in that industry. THIS device will change how people view content thus making the content creators change how they produce content. it will be much more rich and robust.

best analogy is VHS to DVD to Blu-Ray. originally people were cool with just a movie. then they wanted Deleted Scenes and commentary with DVDs. now with Blu-ray the replay value of films are much higher due to the wealth of add'l content to them that makes it immersive.

also, developers will have a field day building apps that use 10-finger touch on a much bigger screen.
