Tyrese Maxey says taking over for Ben Simmons was a difficult stretch of his career because he was trying to please everyone while struggling to be himself“For the first, five or six games of my sophomore year, I was in a crazy place because I didn’t know what they wanted from me. I didn’t know how to be myself. I didn’t know how to please everybody and still please myself.”“So I started doing this thing where, before the game, I didn’t get on no social media. I only talked to my mom. I go to shootaround, I get home, I call my mom, talk to her, get it out the way.”“For the rest of the day until the game, it’s me, my uncle, and my dog. That’s it. I’m not talking to anybody. I go to my room. I turn off all the lights.”“I don’t have to go to sleep all the time, but I just get off my phone, get off social media, and just relax.”
Tyrese Maxey says making friends is hard when everyone can look up his salary but he doesn’t know who to trust“It is hard. I wouldn’t even just say to date. It’s hard to get friends and build relationships with people because of who you are. And, like you said, the internet is a crazy place now.”“People can hide behind that screen and say whatever they want to say, and put whatever face they want to put on, and whatever body, whatever, you know. And they can change themselves.”“And you can’t. Basically, everyone knows everything. Everybody knows who you are. Everybody can Google you, look up your salary, look up how much you make, look up where you live.”“It’s a scary time, man. So you just gotta be careful. I try to be as careful as I can.”
