Yikes. C.J. Gardner-Johnson was cut by the Houston Texans just three games into his first year with the team after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, but the reported reasoning for this move won't shock New Orleans Saints fans. They witnessed a similar split between their team and the 2019 fourth-round pick just a few years ago.

Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, Gardner-Johnson became "a locker room issue" after expressing criticism of his teammates in the secondary. Wilson elaborated on that point, adding that Gardner-Johnson wore out his welcome through "criticism of teammates in the secondary, including the size of one player’s contract, complaints about his role, including a desire to blitz more frequently, and a trade request along with him making frequent comparisons to what he was accustomed to with the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl championship squad."

@jawnswoop
Yeah, someone posted about this yesterday and vic fangio was right about C.J. Gardner being a headcase. Now that I know all about this, the eagles did right by trading him.

Rudi Johnson offered an uplifting message to Virginia youth last week, urging them to “never give up” days before he reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday at the age of 45.

“I want to give a special shutout to all the people who came before me, the alumni from Thomas Dale High School and Ettrick Trojans,” Johnson said in a taped message after being inducted into the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame 2025 class. “Also, the same people that came after me. So, with that being said, I just want to say dream big, shoot for the stars, stay focused, never give up. And one more thing: For the all kids from Chesterfield County, I’ll be watching for the next star to be born.”

Johnson reportedly died by suicide in Florida shortly after midnight Tuesday, police told TMZ.

The outlet further reported that Johnson “had been recently struggling with mental health issues and the possible effects of CTE that he could not overcome.”
