49ers WR Deebo Samuel aims to make up for 'awful' 2022 season

Deebo Samuel is highly motivated to return to his All-Pro form in 2023.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver arrived to minicamp Tuesday describing his performance in 2022 as "awful" and acknowledged his absence this time last year amid a lengthy contract negotiation was a distraction, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows.

"Just going through the tape, it was, 'Look how sluggish and, like, how bad you look on tape,'" Samuel said, adding that he had a long film session with head coach Kyle Shanahan this offseason.

"Like I said, what happened last offseason kind of played a big role in that. I'll never put nothing on tape like that again."

Samuel's 864 scrimmage yards (632 receiving, 232 rushing) last season was a big drop off from the 1,770 scrimmage yards (1,405 receiving, 365 rushing) he accrued during his All-Pro season in 2021. The disparity also hit his touchdown numbers, going from 18 in 2021 to five in 2022.

Yeah he did have a bad year
Last year, he came into camp out of shape
Because of his contract hold out, he didn't practice
And he played like shit the whole year
Glad he at least admitted it
We'll see what happens this season coming up

Stupid ass bitch!!!!

i stopped watching football for the first time in my life last season.
if they fuck around and trade Chase i'll skip this season too.
They gotta realize that trading him is guaranteed to get Montez Sweat double-teamed every game.
Basically ruining their pass rush (Payne & Allen are good, but you need quality edge rushers)

Please don’t let the cowboys get him number 1… number 2 hey gmen look who is now available if barkley want to act up and not re-sign..just saying

I think he would do well with the Rams. McCarthy seems to have faith in Pollard who's coming off an injury, If i'm Dallas, I would at least look and see what the deal is.

Other possible landing spots IMO:

Panthers - We have over 20 million in cap space and one of the more underrated offensive lines in the league (just sayin)
Commanders - This would make EB's job a LOT easier
Broncos - he would do well in Payton's system, but i dont know what their cap situation looks like
