**Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread**

Definitely not the first to play with a loaded team but we are talking about him and maradona not him and other players. He didn't create the goal in that match against Belgium. Di Maria was passing the ball on the right wing and it deflected and went to Higuain. Argentina got lucky on that one.

Stats in football can be misleading. You can't just look at it and try to compare players. Christiano club stat trumps Pele, is he a better player than Pele?

Maradona is not even the leading goal scorer for Argentina.

Messi have major problems in this WC dealing with double-marking something Maradona perfected.

I think argentineans just want to replace maradona because of his tainted legacy (drugs, ped, handball).

Actually Maradona cemented his legacy against Germany, let's see if messi can do the same.

Just to be clear. Maybe I didn't make this clear in the previous replies. I'm talking about what Argentina is going to do.. they're ready to pass it to Messi man.

Like you said, they played different positions, on wildly different club teams and Maradona had to do more with less but the Argentines are going to give it to him. I'm just talking about specifically the argument within Argentina..

Ppl will tell you that Maradona is better than Pele, so you telling me if Messi win not only he will be the best player from Argentina ppl are going to start say he is better than Pele too?

That argument is mainly made by Argentines. I think most people do believe that Pele is the goat. However, it's still very subjective. There are old heads here in Brazil that consistently say Garrincha >>> Pele and they aren't just talking about dribbling ability.

The third-place game on sat should be interesting. Will Brasil give a damn (will their heartbroken fans even show up)?

I hope Robben and them get in that ass, Larry..

FIXED Van Gaal stupid to put a defender to shoot penalty first, for that I say fuck him and his motherfucking staff. O yes ChinoXL fuck you to :lol:

:lol: Yea that Vlaar move was questionable with a fresh Huntelaar lingering about. :smh:

Still one of the better managers this tournament though.

:lol: "Fuck they whole asshole up... Leave Caiporinha's, Roast pork sandwich wrappers everywhere... Write wash me, all that shit!"

they actually trying to blame Mick Jagger of all people for them losing :smh::rolleyes::roflmao2:

It took me a second to figure that out.. it started before that game...every team that Jagger rooted for lost during this world cup... Mick Jagger has a brazilian kid so when he came out rooting for Brazil people were like noooooooooooooooooooo

That I can understand.

SIDE NOTE: They probably right about Garrincha. I don't know much about Garrincha other than he the best dribbler of all-time and his drinking reckless way help wear him down.

EDIT: MATCH FACT
Lionel Messi did not touch the ball in the Dutch penalty area during the 120 minutes.

He also was crippled. One leg was shorter than the other. I was at a bbq in Sao Paulo several years ago and something about Pele came up. And this old head was like "he couldn't fuck with Garrincha though!". I was like....who? So I started asking people and it's a generational thing...old heads...mid 50s and up would often say Garrincha >> Pele...younger cats would just say he was the best dribbler... other thing is the Garrincha was the people's champ...they LOVED him...dont know how much of a role that plays

Maradona never scored in the Final. That's Messi's path coupled with a win. Edit.. I'm still talking about perception within Argentina.

Messi will never be as good as Maradona. Diego is an ALL TIME GREAT. Messi has not even done what the Brazilian Ronaldo has done at the world cup. Quite a few players ahead of Messi.

He gave the pass for two goals including the winning goal in the final. Job done.

I know. I watched the final but it's not going to matter to Argentines. If Messi delivers a cup IN BRAZIL and scores a goal in the Final, they're going to crown him.

MESSI is definitely ahead of DIEGO. He's more efficient and already LEGEND.

In Portuguese so I'm not posting a link but a player from the German team admitted they had a sitdown during halftime and made a pact to not humiliate Brazil in the second half..smh

What are you guys smoking in Argentina?

I think Argentines don't want Maradona being king. They didn't like him as a manager for the national team either. That's why I'm saying if Messi delivers a cup AND plays extremely well, it's done. They are going to crown him.

You missed the point. I posted that match fact to show you how inefficient Messi can be in big games. I have never see Diego get shut out like that and if you watched the '86 tournament then you know what I mean.

7-1 ain't humiliation enough! ?!
Lmao

man.. they didn't even try in the second half and got two more goals man. I really think they could have gone double digits if they wanted to. I honestly think they could have gotten 7 before halftime. They pulled up with 15 minutes left in the first half.

ANYWAY...

Arsenal sign Alexis Sanchez

I guess Suarez really is going to Barca.

not until he wins the world cup

You don't have to win a World CUP to become legend.......
ASK Eusebio, Puskas, CRUyF....
Di Stefano didn't even play on a world cup

What are you guys smoking in Argentina?

Sometimes is like you guys grab stats and start compare players.

To be better than Diego you have to win.

You said messi is more efficient, let's look at his world cup career since you using stats.

How many goals messi score in the knockout rounds?
