**Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread**

A bit complicated.
Let me go Technical
ffside (sometimes known as offsides) is Law 11 in association football which states that if a player is in an offside position (as defined below) when the ball is touched or played by a team-mate, the player may not become actively involved in the play. A player is in an offside position when closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender (which is usually the last outfield player), and also in the opponent's half of the pitch. "Offside position" is a matter of fact, whereas committing an "offside offence" occurs when a player is "actively involved" and is subject to the interpretation of the referee. Goals scored after committing an offside offence are nullified if caught by the referee.

In otherwords, You can do a "fast-break" as in B'ball

So no fast breaks?

Thanks...

It is kinda tricky to understand but I think I have a better understanding

It is. If you go back to my original post abot the topic I edited and highlighted some parts. One of which said it's at the discretion of the ref.
Some are so very obvious some are not.
As it is, keep watching and you'll probably get to understand it more than I do. :D

No players on the offensive side of the ball can be more forward then any defensive player when the ball in play. No cherry picking.

Lol it goes deeper than that tho. Explaining it like that will get people confused.

Greece seems to be squandering some opportunities. They had time of possession for a big chunk of the first half and couldn't capitalize.....

And now this..... They HAD to have that one and it hit the goal post :smh:

Greece has no finishers. They're solely a defensive team. They are perhaps the worst team to be down by a goal or two and have to come back to win.

I haven't been watching soccer as long as others in here so can someone explain why England never seems to win anything? It's interesting considering they invented the sport

If you look at the last 20years the best players of the prem league are all not from England. That's one reason

England doesn't promote their youth teams into the big leagues like other leagues.

The top teams in the premiership (Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool) continuously keep buying players from other countries instead of promoting their own youth players.

You can't blame them tho because it's like monkey see, monkey do. It's really the only way to remain competitive in the Premiership.

Otherwise, if you only promote your youth, you could end up in the mid table or relegated from the league completely.
