**Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread**

Yeah but he should have had a penalty in the first half tho when they kicked him 2 times

Wasn't a call for Mexico missed though too?

You don't make a makeup call at the end of a world cup game. Games shouldn't end on penalty kicks because of bullshit flops.

Mexico was probably going to lose anyway because they stopped attacking after Dos Santos scored (manager's fault) but that's a shitty way to lose..on a flop with 1 minute left.

This.

I can never forget, One of thing I hate about the 1990 WC finals.

Mexico was probably going to lose anyway, but at least make Holland earn it. Don't give it to them with a penalty like that.

oh..and that penalty called against Argentina was just :smh:.. defender got a foot on the ball first.. at best you call a foul and that would have still been a bad call..but a penalty in a fucking world cup final that was 0-0...:smh:

I see absolutely no contact on that Vine slow-motion vid...none. Maybe you have a better replay or something. You see contact on the one I posted?

You had a video up and it showed the contact. Did you change it?

I was going off the Vine video you posted at first that showed the entire play.

Let me see if I can find one..

yeah but it plays a role too. If u missed the first and it was a clear penalty. Chances are they wanna make up for the mistake. Cause they all wanna get good reviews as referee.

Also there was contact but robben just put the theater in it. But it was a penalty. He made contact with his leg.

Here's the freeze frame showing clear contact. Still looking for some video..

Here it is... you can see as clear as day that Marquez hacks him.

Like keone said, Robben just added the theater to it, but with or without the theatrics, this is stonewall penalty.

Robben's progress is impeded to the ball by Marquez's foot.

I am not sure how missing a call and making up would help.

Actually that's is two mistakes instead of one.

Yeah there was contact. The problem is Marquez put his leg in the way. After that robben was free to take advantage of it and he did.

My eyes must be playing tricks on me because I don't see it in the vine vid i posted.

that's a better angle..looked like barely touched him...and Robben is just a master flopper... that's master salesmanship.. Manu Ginobili+ Wade need to be paying royalties.

It's no way you go down like that on such light contact unless you're planning on going down. Robben has this down to an art...i mean..he's definitely put his 10,000 hours in because that's masterful.

:lol::lol:

Nah he gets his foot pretty clearly there though. Didn't need the theatrics, but that's a penalty even without the showmanship. That's why I fault Marquez for even going in to begin with.

It's a bit of a conundrum cause you can't touch him in the box, but if you don't respect his talent, he'll murder you.

I watched this over and over and yes it looks like he touched the point of his boots.

That happens a lot, more than you think.

This is football not basketball every little contact can't be a foul.

Robben wouldn't have kept control of the ball that's why he flopped.

This should have been a play on.

YESS! That's why he can't be touched.

Mmmmm I don't know about that one... But you make my point.

He broke through 3 players already to get into that position, had he broke free from the byline, I THINK he would've had a shot on goal, but we'll never know cause he got stepped on.

And therein lies the rub. As a ref, you have to judge whether or not a player is allowed a chance to the ball, and whether that ball is playable or not.

That was... but his opportunity was denied.

Only call is a penalty.

exactly.

now mexico you want to see how to not attack and make it damn near impossible for the other team to score..

watch greece or costa rica if any of them fuck around and get a goal early

Mbut we'll never know cause he got stepped on.

You're exaggerating this. He didn't get stepped ON.... unless you definition of being stepped on means light contact in the front of your shoe

I think what happened was this:

Robben made a great move but he lead the ball out too far... and he's played enough to instantly know that...and the defender put his foot out there at just the perfect time... the contact was SO light that Robben probably didn't even feel it at all..but it was close enough for him to Flop... and flopping probably gave him a better chance than trying to recover. He's done this countless times and he put pressure on the ref and won this time.

That shouldn't have been a penalty. That was a crafty play by a vet.

4 mexicans surrounded him after he push the ball passed Marquez.

He wouldn't have a shot at goal and clearly the ref couldn't see what happened.

The diving is what the ref saw and of course it is in the penalty area so the only call is penalty.

manager pulled Dos Santos after he scored a goal :smh: idiot

and he talking bout a penalty

you are the penalty

you score and make anything they do academic.

i'd much rather get beat on a counter than a prevent defense at least you're going for it

mexico looked like the u.s. after that.. no build up just 1 person forward hoping for a miracle with a long pass
