**Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread**

I have to admit, sometimes I have a hard time rooting for this team. The racism in American soccer is ridiculous. On every level too. There was alot of surprise and shock when the roster and the starting lineups were announced because of Beasley, the black German players, and Landon Donovan. Then as it is playing out, the black players really are the best on the team. Dempsey is the only non black player putting in work. The Commentators keep talking about Bradley,Dempsey, and Zusi but Jermain Jones,Fabian Johnson,Tim Howard, and Demarcus Beasley are the ones putting in the major work(with Dempsey). They dogged Brooks when he was brought in,but really didn't give him the same props that Donovan got for scoring. They talked more about Zusi's corner kick assist than either Brooks' goal or Jermain's goal which was the best goal scored by us the whole tournament.:hmm: The real story of the World cup is all these bruthas out here carrying this team. Why isn't Tim Howard the face of this team? He is the only player ever to play for the US that is one of the top in the World at his position. And has been for YEARS. There is not a doubt in my mind that is Tim Howard was white, they would be portraying him as the leader and constantly showing him shouting encouragement and portraying him as the hero of the team for years.
And who are these Commentators? The truth of the matter is that Lalas was garbage when he played. He was known for his red hair and goatee, but him and Agoos were liabilities on defense.I was shocked he made the team over Desmond Armstrong in the first place. Then they have Landon who is one of the worst commentators I've ever seen in any sport. And yet Cobi Jones can't get a job. Or Desmond Armstrong. :smh:
The real reason we will never be a powerhouse in Soccer here in the US is our system. Our most talented don't get the best training but our most wealthy do.Its expensive as hell to play for a club soccer team here in the US.This is why Klinnsmann had to go to Germany to get players who were able to come up thru a system that developed based on talent and not on wealth. Non coincidentally, these are the best players on the team.

This is an outstanding post

Tim Howard not the face because he does not communicate as well as others, and the other "black" players are average. Football, Basketball is the real reason Soccer will never be the powerhouse, has nothing to do with wealth or any other victim card. Little black/brown white kids want to play football and basketball. no one gives two shits about soccer in the USA, because there are better options, choices in the USA.

I know a bunch of serious soccer fans that seem to be upset that more people are getting into the sport

Some of it is annoying at times, but there more the merrier. You figure for every 10 people, 2-3 will permanently fall in love with this sport moving forward.

This is progress.

Yeah I thought that rant was a bit odd too. We gotta cut that shit out man.

Soccer players world wide. If it was simply a matter of having black guys involved to win, any of the African teams would be dominating not only the worldwide games like this but also all the club teams in different leagues. There are several African teams, and as we see, lots of west African teams who all qualify for the cup. Didn't even get to mention the South American teams that have Black and mixed players. And racism is rampant everywhere so you may as well root for America as much as any other team, not for blind love of america, but for the brothers who are on there and whenever there are more THIS TEAM is who they will be playing for. It's your team, flaws and all. But hey, you wanna root for someone else, go right ahead. I root for a few west African teams, and a few South American teams, but most of all the team from the country I'm from. If you're waiting f for a country to be perfect to root for you'll have to cut your tv off.

Black people, we are great, we are by no means inferior. Duh.

I see what you're saying but I think of those ppl that realized the excite, at least half will only continue to follow when the next WC comes about. BUT I am interested if this raises the interest in MLS. They definitely need it (in my eyes) they way they keep expanding and adding new teams.

What's wrong with that? That's how movements start. They reason any of us new fans (I'm one of em, though I've casually followed for years) is because some powerful people in the US decided make soccer a priority so we can get better at it. So people like me started watching the cup 4 years ago. I got my nephews interested. They are more interested in soccer than I was when I was their age. All of us wanted to be b ball stars and football stars. Some of them will wanna be soccer stars. Americans are becoming more aware of the most popular sport in the world because our team might have a shot.

Which part of what I said is that question referring to? How they need the expanded fan based because of the increase in league teams? Just want to make sure so I can specify my view on the matter.

Doesn't communicate well?

I played soccer my whole life. From club to ODP to college.Coached a bit as well. Hands down at the younger ages, Mexican players are by far the best in the US.Mostly due to their early exposure to soccer. BUT the club and ODP teams are white by a huge majority. This is because of the cost, not the interest or ability.

Well your point about the MLS kinda answers my question so nevermind. I see that the MLS is expanding. I'm hoping Atlanta does come through and get a team. I don't support the football and basketball much but I'm kinda anxious to support a soccer team. I may even get season tix.

I'm a world cup fan, not a die hard. My fam experience with soccer in the US mirrors some of the other posts regarding costs( those club teams basically segregate the sport), and coaches making decisions on a kids future based on being black and they "supposedly " should be playing other sports. It has dissuaded more than a few Black young men in my family. Luckily they did okay in other sports, but most started with soccer and it was their first love.

Soccer is a beautiful game, but America is killing itself by not using its population diversity to it's advantage. All of these 2nd, 3rd string NFL receivers just seem like they would kill speed wise, and endurance wise in soccer if someone could keep a soccer ball on their feet through high school.

Well say this here since I've said it in the main football thread.

I think that the MLS needs to not add more teams but condense. Yes the game is growing here but I don't think expansion is what is needed at the moment. If there are few teams, then the quality and competition will be of a very good standard. Ppl will see how competitive the league is, and less teams would hopefully lead to good parity.

Then after they get a really good strong base, expand to more teams. That's my view on MLS and their current growth.

Yet you're one of the most common dissenting voices in threads about historical black greatness.

Not at all. If you notice I'm the one who posts the MOST about it.

We just don't have to lie about certain aspects if history to be that. But anyway, this is a World Cup thread. I wanna talk soccer in here.

Kids who became great at basketball weren't encouraged to play it at first, they just played it.

Same with football.

We can play whatever we want and no one will stop it of they see a way to win. No one CAN stop anyone who wants to play.

Soccer has the advantage of being somebtjg that only requires a ball and a field. There's plenty of that all over America. Its not limited by class and privilege in other countries so it doesn't have to be here. It's becoming more interesting to Americans from all backgrounds and I think we will see greatness coming from this country very soon. We already are, but I can imagine championship level shit within 2 or 3 more cups. That's my guess based on the little I know about the game and how much more interesting it's become.

Honestly it seems like Black Americans are more interested in business and ownership nowadays anyway, so there's a chance we won't be as involved in sports as we were on past generations as far as on the field goes. There's ways that. And science. And. Math. We can do all that.

I think it's the other way around in my opinion.
Even here on BGOL You have guys coming around looking and talking about the "negative" aspects of the game and are so condescending.
Some act like they needed to be "begged" to fall in love with the game. I do not have even an ounce of fuck to give about[American]football either. I do get with B'ball so much
A couple of post above attest to some of what I am talking about.
