Heat-Raptors Preview
STATS LLC

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have played some of their best basketball against Chris Bosh's former team, and the Miami Heat have yet to drop a meeting with Toronto since the three joined forces.

They've yet to face a Raptors squad featuring Rudy Gay, though.

The Heat seek a 10th straight victory in this series Sunday as they conclude a four-game road trip against Toronto, which looked rather impressive in Gay's debut.

James scored a career-high 56 points at Toronto on March 20, 2005, while playing for Cleveland, and he has four of his 34 career regular-season triple-doubles versus the Raptors -- the latest being a 31-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist performance in a 123-116 overtime home victory Jan. 23.

Wade netted 35 points in that contest and is averaging 31.5 in his last 11 against Toronto. Bosh has thrived in two trips to Air Canada Centre as a member of the Heat (29-14), averaging 27.5 points.

The Raptors, though, looked good in Gay's debut Friday after acquiring the forward from Memphis in a three-team trade on Wednesday. Gay received a standing ovation before tipoff and came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points in a 98-73 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Toronto (17-30) had dropped eight of its previous 10 contests.

"It felt great to be accepted like I (was)," Gay said. "It was just good to get out there and play basketball. There's been so many other things going on. This is my first time having to go through it."

Gay is hoping to make an impact for a struggling Toronto team after coming from a Memphis club that was contending for home-court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. With leading scorer DeMar DeRozan in the mix, Gay believes the young Raptors have a bright future.

"He's by far the best (shooting) guard I've ever played with," Gay said of DeRozan, who scored 19 points Friday. "This is just the start of it. The more practice, the more games we play together the better we'll get.

"We're young, we're explosive. There are so many different ways we can score and so many different options we have."

The Raptors proved they could play some defense, too, shutting down the high-scoring Clippers after giving up an average of 106.2 points over their previous 10.

Gay scored a career-high 41 points versus the Heat on Dec. 13, 2009, and DeRozan is averaging 21.3 points in his last eight in this series.

The Heat should be hungry to shut those two down after a poor defensive performance Friday in Indiana. The Pacers shot 55.7 percent and cruised to a 102-89 win, never trailing after late in the first quarter.

Opponents are shooting only 43.9 percent against Miami this season.

"We have to get better and play better at both ends of the court," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Hopefully, we will."

James scored 28 points and Wade added 17 as Miami fell to 1-2 on its trip.

"We're not going to let it linger," Wade said. "We'll learn from it, but we'll move on and finish this road trip."

Lebron would avg a triple double if he would crash the board, when he's on the weak side.

3 point shooting is ghost on both teams. I'm convinced they just trying to get this over with so they can watch the Super Bowl

Rockets-Heat Preview
Dominance at home is one of the key reasons the Miami Heat are atop the Eastern Conference.

The Houston Rockets displayed their own superiority while tying an NBA record in their last game.

LeBron James looks to continue his own superb stretch by helping the Heat beat the surging Rockets for a seventh consecutive time Wednesday night.

Miami (31-14) leads the East by a half-game over Atlantic Division-leading New York thanks in part to a 19-3 home record.

James kept the Heat rolling there Monday, pouring in 31 points while hitting 13 of 14 from the floor in a 99-94 victory over Charlotte to open this five-game homestand.

"I didn't plan it that way, I was just attacking when I could, got into the paint and was able to make some shots," said James, who made nine shots from two feet or closer.

James hasn't missed much lately, connecting on 60.4 percent from the field in Miami's last 11 games. He also had a triple-double in that stretch, and came two boards and two assists shy of another against the Bobcats.

"If he knows and feels he's close to a triple double, he doesn't let that affect his game," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He's not going to be one of those guys that will throw it off the backboard and try to get a rebound."

James is averaging 30.8 points on 55.4 percent shooting in four games against Houston (27-23) since joining the Heat.

He dominated the latest meeting Nov. 12, scoring 32 of his 38 points in the second half - to go along with 10 boards and six assists - and hitting a driving layup with 19 seconds left to put Miami ahead for good in a 113-110 win.

The Heat are averaging 112.3 points during a six-game winning streak over the Rockets, and there's plenty of reason to believe this will be another high-scoring affair considering Houston has put up 117.2 per game while winning five of its last six overall.

The Rockets' latest performance wound up being one for the history books as they tied an NBA record with an eye-popping 23 3-pointers while pounding Golden State 140-109 on Tuesday. That matched Orlando's mark from Jan. 13, 2009.

It was Houston's highest-scoring game that ended in regulation since getting 149 points against Philadelphia on Feb. 16, 1993.

"Thankfully, we were just able to get a bunch of open looks and knock them down," guard Jeremy Lin said. "That's just the way it is sometimes."

Lin led the way, sinking a career-high five from long range while going 10 for 16 from the floor to finish with a game-high 28 points and nine assists.

He has topped 20 points in two of the last three games, but has totaled 17 points while shooting 4 of 19 with 10 turnovers in two career regular-season games against Miami.

Lin had nine points and six assists against the Heat in November, while Chandler Parsons had 25 while hitting half of his 10 attempts from 3-point range.

Parsons scored 23 points with four steals in a 97-88 loss April 22 in Houston's most recent visit to Miami.

He's been on a tear from beyond the arc over the last three games, sinking 10 of 21 while averaging 20.3 points.

It might be a wrap for Joel Anthony lol

Clippers-Heat Preview
While LeBron James and Dwyane Wade continue to guide the thriving Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Clippers' start-studded roster has been depleted by injuries.

That could change Friday night.

Los Angeles hopes Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups each will be in the lineup as it continues its eight-game road trip against Miami.

The Heat (32-14) have won eight of their last 10 games, with James scoring at least 30 points in each contest during a three-game winning streak. He scored 32 in Wednesday's 114-108 win over Houston, two nights after hitting 13 of 14 from the field in a 99-94 win over Charlotte.

Coach Erik Spoelstra said James can adjust to any defense, which is the main reason James is shooting a career-best 55.6 percent from the floor.

"He reads the game and does whatever's needed," Spoelstra said. "What you have is the most talented player in the league, a once-in-a-generation player. You add to that his basketball IQ, his work ethic. When you add all that together, you never know what the ceiling is. He may be able to keep on going, and we'll need him to."

Wade was equally as good Wednesday, scoring 31 points and making a key block on a James Harden 3-point attempt late in the game.

"Dwyane at his best can dominate at either end of the floor," Spoelstra said. "Offensively, he's really getting his legs and getting healthier. He's been willing to put in more work than he ever has. That's the type of dedication he's put into this season."

A lack of good health has been a major reason for the Clippers' current slump.

Los Angeles (35-16) has dropped seven of 10 and three of five on its road trip despite Wednesday's 86-76 win over Orlando. Paul has missed nine straight games with a bruised kneecap.

Griffin has sat out the last two with a strained hamstring and Crawford missed Wednesday's contest with a sore right shoulder. Billups, who has played in only three games and none since Dec. 3, appears ready to return after suffering from tendinitis in his left foot.

All four players practiced Thursday and are listed as game-time decisions. It was the first time Paul and Billups practiced together in two months.

"It's kind of weird to have everybody out there," Griffin told the team's official website. "It's nice to have a full team."

Coach Vinny Del Negro just isn't sure if all of them will be on the floor together Friday. If not, he expects all four to be able to play Sunday versus New York.

"We've got to reevaluate everything (Friday) and see how everybody feels," Del Negro said. "But it was good to have everybody out there.

"We'll have a better idea after (Trainer) Jasen (Powell) meets with them and they get their therapy and we see how they are after the shootaround."

Eric Bledsoe helped provide some relief for the injury-plagued Clippers, scoring a career-high 27 points in Wednesday's win to help end a three-game losing streak.

Crawford scored a team-high 22 points off the bench, Griffin had 20 and 14 rebounds and Paul added 16 points and 10 assists in a 107-100 win over Miami on Nov. 14.

James finished with 30 points in that contest, but Wade and Chris Bosh, who could play Friday after sitting out Wednesday because of the flu, shot a combined 5 for 23 from the field. Wade finished with a season-low six points and five turnovers.
