Offical Batman v Superman: Movie Review and Discussion Thread

Meet The New Commissioner James Gordon
whiplash-jk-simmons-slice.jpg

When it comes to actors who are perfectly cast as comic book characters, J.K. Simmons is in the upper echelons with his scene-stealing performance as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. One of the few smart things theAmazing Spider-Man movies did was not trying to replace him because no one else was going to come close.

Now it looks like Simmons is returning to comic book worlds, but he’s moving from Marvel to DC. THR is reporting that Simmons will play Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon in Justice League. He follows in the footsteps of Pat Hingle from the 1989 – 1997 Batman movies and Gary Oldman, who played the character in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy.

So y'all mad at the oscars but are there even any black people in this movie?
Perry White is black and this is setting up the Justice League. Cyborg and John Stewart (Green Lantern) have been confirmed. Also connects to Suicide Squad which Will Smith is in.

Justice League Will Be 'Lighter' in Tone Than Batman v Superman

Watching the trailers, reading the interviews, there’s no doubt that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is going to be a dark movie. Both literally dark, as lots of it takes place at night, and tonally dark, in that it’ll deal with some deep issues. But the film’s writer says things aren’t going to stay that way.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, writer Chris Terrio talked about the differences in the films. Terrio, the Oscar-winning writer of Argo, wrote the latest draft of Batman v Superman as well as Justice League Part One and said the following about the films.

“I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman,” Terrio said. “From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit.”

The writer also refers to Batman v Superman as the “Empire Strikes Back” of a series of films that started with Man of Steel and will end with Justice League Part One. “The middle film tends to be the darkest one.” he said. “I do think from Man of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really.”

Oddly though, Terrio said that while he wrote Part One of the two-part Justice League movie, he may not come back for the second. “I have written Justice League Part One, but I won’t necessarily write Part Two,” he said. “This has been the most rigorous intellectual exercise I’ve had in my writing life.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25. Justice League Part One starts shooting soon, and is aimed for a release on November 17, 2017.

It all hinges on this shit. If DC drops the ball.. :itsawrap:

It does but ALL the the early screening reports etc I've read have been positive raging from "Enjoyable to better than all of the Nolan Trilogies" . I honestly have not heard on bad opinion about the movie. Where as, the screenings etc for MoS were already divisive and mixed.

True, but I have only watched MOS once after I saw it in the theater. The Dark night rises was good, but not on the level of the first 2 with Batman Begins one of my most favorite "movies" of all time. Shit seems rushed. I just hope it isn't a Matrix Reloaded bloat fest, but we will see.

Batman V Superman Director And Star Respond To Fan Scrutiny/Backlash

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is still a couple of weeks away from release, but there’s already an air of negativity surrounding the movie. Aside from the usual fan-nitpicking of the trailers and TV spots etc., there have also been several “editorial” pieces from people who haven’t even seen the film yet, but claim to have heard from inside sources that the Man Of Steel follow-up isn’t up to par, and Warner Bros. are not happy.

Some feel this is a targeted smear campaign, while others say that any Zack Snyder DC movie is always going to be divisive anyway and his fans already know what to expect – but what does the director himself think about all of this early backlash?

Here’s what Snyder had to say during an interview with The LA Times:

The tweets, comments, articles, blogs — it’s insanity. I tune it out to the extent that, when it’s really dumb, then we go, “OK, someone stomp this [rumor] because it’s stupid.” But mostly I just go, “Thank God they’re talking about the movie.” The fact that they care enough to get online and either rage or praise — that’s just cool for the culture, for the fans.

A certain amount of vitriol also greeted Ben Affleck when it was announced that he had been cast as our new Batman, so he’s used to taking this sort of thing in his stride. In the same interview, the actor asserts that he’s proud of the film… but that he’s also glad he’s not in Snyder’s position behind the camera.

Nobody tweeted about “Casablanca,” and look at how they did. [Laughs] From directing movies myself, at this point I always feel too enmeshed with it, where I get this panicked sense of like, “Is it good? It’s horrible, right? It’s going to bomb.” But I have a little more sense of remove from this. I feel relaxed and I’m proud of the movie and excited for people to see it. It’s a much nicer feeling. I’m so glad I’m not Zack.

Tell us, has any of this negativity put you off seeing Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, or will you still be first in line when it opens on March 25?

Where are the editorial pieces? Especially, considering there is an embargo about talking about the film like an editorial piece would have to do in order to be written. This article points to nothing...Where are the articles? Where are the pieces? Who wrote them? Who exactly is standing by that report? Scrutiny and Backlash to what? A movie that virtually no one has seen yet?

I've never bought into the smear campaign thing before but this is ridiculous. I have never seen a movie before it's release get so much attention.

13 more days!

I think they're are talking about trailer reactions. People hated the initial or were underwhelmed by the first release.

Nawh, the 1st trailer was great. You're likely referring to the 2nd Doomsday trailer which is the one that got mixed reaction. The last trailer was well received. Either-way, we'll see in damn near 12 days. I can't believe it! This has been a long 3 years for some and others waited their entire lives for this movie. Count me as part of the latter crowd!

More like Watchmen??!?!???!
WatchMen is hella wack.......

I might have to pass on this movie.....If that is true.

Everyone has there own taste. But many describe Watchman as one of the purest comic book movie adaptations ever! If you're any kind of comic book fan, I don't know how you decide to stay home and not go an experience this movie. It's honestly just a movie it's part of history!

I think the batman centric trailer shut a lot of people and I think they did as a reaction to the scrutiny they were receiving.

Affleck from all indication seems like he might give the best portrayal of Batman ever. That's crazy to think! I won't lie I was one of the people that was not terribly happy about his casting. More like, surprised! But for the most part i've been fine with his past work. I actually and probably was one of the few that liked his Dare Devil and the follow-up Elektra movies.
