WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, raised "at least $25 million" for his presidential bid in the first three months of 2007, his campaign announced Wednesday morning.

The $25 million haul all but matches Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's, D-New York, fundraising haul for the same three month time period. Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination, earlier this week reported raising $26 million for her campaign.

Of the $25-plus million taken in, Obama's campaign said that nearly $7 million was raised from the Internet and that $23.5 million of those funds can be spent in the Democratic primary.

The initial fund-raising deadlines are generally considered to be an early indicator of a candidate's viability, but given the fund-raising options available to the candidates -- such as raising money for both the primary and general elections -- it is difficult to compare individual campaigns until detailed financial reports are filed with the Federal Election Commission later this month.

The campaigns have released rough estimates of their fund-raising, but the complete reports are not due until April 15.

That's cool and all but don't forget that Clinton just transferred $10 Million from her Senate campaign warchest giving her $36 million for her run. She wants $100 million before it's all said and done and will probably get close.

Good news from Obama's camp though.

Keep giving fam. $5 a month won't hurt most of us.

I think the internet really gives some people the opportunity to donate who might otherwise just not get involved. Senator Obama has capitalized on this fact rather nicely and i believe it will continue to aid him in the democratic primary.

Truth. A strategy put in place from jump from his camp. Especially since he's HUGELY admired by young (computer using) voters.

Gonna be a tough race but Obama will do this country alot of good if in office. We gotta back him though.

Get them tee shirts and stickers fam. His support needs to be tangible too.

Technically, she is. She didn't empty her Senate warchest. There's still plenty to pulll from. That plus her backers knowing that it's a "long distance race" and not a "sprint", they'll keep giving regularly for the next year or better.

We have to adopt that mentality too.

Hope Obama can go above and beyond his goal with that. Once the issues start being raised we'll see who is the better candidate.

Obama received donations from 100,000 individual donors versus Hillary Clinton's 50,000 individual donors that means Obama has a lead in the amount of individual supporters online who quite possible will donate more than once during the primary and hopefully the general elections. Hillary raised a majority of her money from $1,000 dollar dinner parties from wealthy contributors. During the last democratic primary Howard dean proved that he was able to tap into his indiviual contributor base and raise more money during the course of the election while john kerry was not able to convince the wealthy donors to repeat their large contributions. If history repeats itself this shows that Obama might have a slight advantage in his ability to sustain funding over a longer period of time. Granted hillary has a warchest but if she plans to simply outspend the competition she might have problems later on down the line if Obama can match her in spending while tapping into a more easily replenishable donor base.

Cogisn. 100%

Political representation doesn't come free in this country. If you support the man give him atleast $5.00 or even $1.00 per month. This proves that we have a real chance of getting a black president in office. Please support him so we can get these crazy republikkkans out of office.

Why am i not surprised.

Obama held a rally out here last week.

Every black person in my freshman class was out there. And it was $100 Dollars to get anywhere near that shit. :smh: :smh:

Seems like Obama is laughing his way to the bank right now

I will give $$$ soon but DAYUM shouldnt there be a cap for this? I know just about every candidate opted to raise privately as opposed to gov. funds(<-experts correct me if I'm wrong) but this race to a hundred million is off-putting.

Good for OBAMA!...... but why is the media and everybody
focused so much on how much the candiates can raise?

Does this alone decide who will lead each party?
Instead of focusing on where each candiate stands
they continue to be worried about how much money
they each can generate uh.....what about the issues?
the media neglects this..I'm not surprised but was tripping on
how they tracked down Obama's old homeless friend from school
like Obama owe this dude something. FUCK THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA! :hmm:

I believe the cap is 4,600 total for the election. The problem with hillary is that she got her money from 50,000 people and Obama got his money from 100,000. 90% of the people donated $100 or less, meaning he has a larger pool of contributors for donations.

Again I encourage everyone to donate money for the Obama campaign. This is truely a legitimate chance for us to get a black president. Again political representation isn't free so donate whatever you can.

the Clinton camp needs to be concerned.

Obama's average donor gave $250.00 well short of the $4,600 donation limit which means that he can go back to the same folks while Hillary's donors may be close to the limit. Also, Obama is widening his base and avoiding PAC's and corporate donors.

The Surge continues!

yeah i made a contribution and will continue to make more as the primary heats up. This was only the first quarter disclosures when they actually file in april to give full disclosure then we can really look at exactly how the money breaks down for Obama.

The Clintons will be pissed off by this, the damn hypocrites. I wonder if everyone heard that Hilary does not support the removal of all US troops from Iraq and want the USA to keep a permanent presence in that country by keeping those 4 military bases it built there...

All i know is that he proved that bitter old man farrakhan wrong when in his interview he stated that obama didnt have a real shot because he couldnt possibly raise as much money as the Clintons.
