We know that housing costs in New York City are astronomically expensive—but a new report has confirmed how high they’ve gotten.

Real estate listing site Zumper released its June national rent report, which once again placed New York second place in a top 10 of the highest one-bedroom median rent prices in the country, after San Francisco.

Median rent for one-bedrooms in New York City, according to the report, grew 4.6 percent last month, reaching $2,980—the highest it has been in at least three years, the report says. In terms of two-bedroom apartments, they grew at an even higher rate of 5.1 percent, reaching $3,300.

The last time NYC reached a peak was last July, when one-bedroom median rent was $2,900.

Zumper looked at 100 cities in the country and used data from over one million listings. The report’s top five markets with the highest June one-bedroom rents includes San Francisco at $3,700, New York at $2,980, Boston at $2,500, San Jose at $2,430, and Los Angeles at $2,250.

Shits laughable but still cheaper than San Francisco. One bedrooms in SF go for 3500.

Question, For cities like this do they still have jobs that pay minimum wage?

In that chart when it says Miami I wonder if they’re talking about Miami Beach? Boston is hella expensive. I wanna get out of this bitch. I been here my whole life. I got Florida in sight. I like the snow but I can do without it for the most part now that I’m older.

Article is from June which means by now it probably creeped up even higher.

Hell yes.

That is an avg price though. Craigslist can give an idea of the high and low range.

minimum wage is going up to $15

I’m saying like I live in Alabama, I think the federal minimum wage is like $7 or something a hour and that’s what some jobs pay but you can find a one bedroom for like $400. In cities where people are saying a simple one bedroom can be over $1000 do they still have jobs where the pay is like $7 a hour?

lol that been the high for over five years now.. but its mostly new renovated shit,

muthafuckas tryin to flip... you could still get housing for less than half that.. if you are willing to do your homework, and fill out a lot of applications...

I’m assuming this is Manhattan, which is fucking up the averages.

Something tells me this isn’t the case for the out 4 boroughs.

But I ain’t from NYC so :dunno:

Nah. it comes down to new/renovated or old. But Brooklyn and Queens are damn near just as expensive unless you want to move way out or deep in the hood.

Nobody wants to live in the Bronx so it'c cheaper.

Word. I heard that BK is being gentrified, so I can see this being the case for rent. I didn’t know about Queens though.

NYC would be the HIGHEST in the nation if certain laws weren't in place.
Too bad San Francisco doesn't have similar laws. The politicians have sold out
Black & Brown people there.

SF has rent control but owners bought out peoples leases .

It’s jobs paying $10 or less for sure

Rent control is just ONE thing, NYC has rent control too. Same shit happens here.
That's only good for people LIVING in the building at the time.
What about allowing Low income people to afford to live in new buildings?
ANY new residential building, including Expensive High Rises in Manhattan HAVE
to allocate a certain amount of apartments for low income people.

These cacs got so pissed they created different entrances for them dubbed the "Poor Door"

My Friend grew up on 85th Street Between Amsterdam and Broadway
He lived in a 5 Bedroom with his family. The WHOLE block use to be spanish
30 years ago until the landlords started buying people out. Now, his family is
the only spanish people still on the block...ALL cac now

:54 I wanna choke the shit outta that cac bitch

Well how much for a house:yes:

What does the lower class do because no way minimum wage can pay for that shit

I sold my house in Morris Cty, NJ 10 years for $250k. 3 br, 1bth on 1/3 of an acre.
Prices have had to have gone up since then.... Add in snow too... Fuck that. Northern NJ is for the snow birds and people with degrees outside of the cities (CAC's).

Those making lower than $50k probably live with their parents or have roommates.

Damn... It's time to get pass the ego and arrogance. Families need to start buying houses and living together again.

$3,700 for a one bedroom apt in SF... that's crazy.

:smh:

Yeah they deserve to live in a bland city devoid of cultural character. I hope all the culture that made these cities what they are today is redistributed in new growth areas away from bland ass cacs.
