An Upper West Side kids basketball instructor has been indicted on sex assault charges involving two 8-year-old girls under his supervision, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Channing Parker, 22, was originally arrested on charges he forced a child to perform oral sex on him in a single-occupancy bathroom on March 10 at the IDEAL school on W. 91st St.

After parents were informed of the alleged attack, investigators learned another child had been attacked by Parker two days prior, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Parker's bail was raised from $100,000 to $200,000 at his arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday because of the additional victim.

The instructor had been employed by Kids Creative, a nonprofit organizer of after-school programs, since January 2015. He began working at IDEAL’s basketball program in November.

He’s charged with predatory sexual assault, criminal sex act, sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

“As demonstrated by the allegations in this case, sexual predators are often repeat offenders,” DA Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement. “Just one day after Channing Parker’s arrest, another victim came forward.”

The DA said parents of kids who may have had contact with Parker can call his office’s Child Abuse Unit at (212) 335-4308 to report an incident or receive counseling.

After-School Instructor Accused of Sex Attack on 9-Year-Old Girl at Manhattan Private School
By Ida Siegal

Parents are stunned after learning that a young girl was allegedly assaulted by an after-school instructor at a private school on the Upper West Side. Ida Siegal reports.

An after-school program instructor at an Upper West Side private school is accused in a sex attack on a 9-year-old girl, authorities say.

The victim was playing basketball at the IDEAL School of Manhattan with other students Friday afternoon when the group started to head indoors to watch a movie, police said. Channing Parker, who works at the school, asked the girl to stay behind to hang out.

Authorities allege the 22-year-old Parker took her to a bathroom, where he forced her to perform a sex act on him.

The mother of the young girl called the school and informed them about the incident after her daughter recounted the ordeal when she was picked up from school, police said.

Some residents of the quiet neighborhood were shocked to hear about the assault and are calling on the school to rectify the situation.

"I think it's so terrible because this is such a nice neighborhood, I'm so shocked" said resident Shunli Warner. "I hope the school district will work with police to enforce the rule and make sure this never happens again."

Parker's neighbors were equally as shocked by the news.

"You don't know it's gonna be your neighbor and it's surprising to hear this right now," a neighbor told News 4. "We would have never known."

A spokesman for the IDEAL School said Parker is an employee of an outside provider of after-school services, Kids Creative. He added that the administration notified authorities of the incident and have fully cooperated with the investigation.

"Our students' safety is our top priority," the school said in a statement Sunday. "The IDEAL School has terminated its relationship with Kids Creative effective immediately."

Parker allegedly passed a mandatory background check for the agency, who has provided various programs for kids to the private school and more than 25 others for more than 15 years, according to IDEAL.

In a statement sent to NBC New York Sunday, Kids Creative said it conducts "rigorous" background checks on all of its employees. The agency said it hasn't experienced allegations of the sort against any of its employees in its 17-year existence.

"Kids Creative is deeply troubled by the recent allegation against one of our employees at The IDEAL School of Manhattan," the agency said. "Kids Creative has terminated the employee for violating its rules and procedures and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement. We will continue to support The IDEAL School of Manhattan and its community throughout the criminal investigation. The health and safety of our students is our top priority."

Officers arrested Parker Saturday. He faces charges of first-degree criminal sex act, first-degree sexual abuse and predatory sexual assault against a child younger than 13 years old.

By ELIZABETH A. HARRISMARCH 29, 2017

“As demonstrated by the allegations in this case, sexual predators are often repeat offenders,” Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., the Manhattan district attorney, said in a statement. “Just one day after Channing Parker’s arrest, another victim came forward. We want to make sure that any other potential victims are promptly identified and matched with the resources and help they need so that they do not bear this burden alone.”

The lawyer representing Mr. Parker did not return a call or an email seeking comment. Kids Creative, the after-school programming group, said in a statement, “Kids Creative has terminated the employee for violating our rules and procedures and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement.” The statement added that the group “conducts rigorous background checks on all employees” and “has not experienced any allegations of this nature against our employees in our 17-year history.”

In a statement, Ideal School said, “We are deeply disturbed that any students from our school were mistreated by an employee of the Kids Creative after-school program, and we will continue to fully support any of our families involved in this incident.”

After-school teacher charged with sexual assault on 9-year-old girl, sources say
POSTED 11:27 PM, MARCH 11, 2017, BY CHRIS BRITO AND MYLES MILLER, UPDATED AT 09:49AM, MARCH 12, 2017

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan – Police sources say an employee of an after school provider sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl during after-school hours Friday afternoon.

Channing Parker, 22, was arrested after he allegedly forced a student at the IDEAL school of Manhattan on the Upper West Side to perform oral sex on him, according to sources.

The child was playing basketball with students Friday between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. When they decided to go see a movie inside, the after-school teacher asked the victim if she wanted to stick around and continue playing basketball. Instead, he took her to the bathroom and forced her to perform a sexual act, police sources said.

When the victim was picked up by her mother, she told her what had happened. The victim was taken to Columbian Presbyterian Hospital for further examination. The victim’s mother also notified the school’s principal, according to sources.

Parker was charged with criminal sex act, sex abuse and act manner injurious to a minor, police sources said.

The IDEAL School has terminated its relationship with the outside after-school care provider.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article erroneously reported that Channing Parker was employed by IDEAL school. He was not; Parker was employed by an outside after-school care provider. This story has been updated to reflect that change.
