Everybody I saw this last night. It was reeeeeeeeeaaallllllyyy good! Morris Chestnut's character is the model for a husband. Seriously. TD Jakes needs to stay out of movies with his asthma hert attack sounding self. Otherwise it was a great film with great performances
Ladies: DO NOT GET THERE AFTER THE FIRST 20 MINUTES!! :D

He's got to put his signature on the movie based on his book. I can't beef with that. At least he's not wearing a dress and glasses.

As far as religious, inspirational films go, I really liked his Woman Thou Art Loosed (which featured a magnificent Kimberly Elise performance). He and his filmmakers seem to have a better grasp on moralistic storytelling than the more cheesy (and more prolific) Tyler Perry does,

I've been hearing it's a good movie. I plan on seeing it tomorrow. . so. . . NO SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD.. .

K Thanks :)

I finally saw this movie. . .

It was very good. It's funny because I could identify a lot of similarities in people with martial problems that I know and this movie.. . :smh::(

good lookn my dude
 You're welcome

Yup... I won't put any spoilers since people still haven't seen it. But I have seen it and I have been in the position of the male character before. My thing is if you don't like it, why marry it???
I have wanted to see this since it came out.. I might try to catch a Matinee this weekend..
Girl go to a matinee--although out here a matinee still costs double what the movies cost 5 years ago LOL

I saw this the other night...I really like it. Morris Chestnut is entirely too fine.
He IS!!! Damn...

And people need to stop saying he's short. I saw him on Living Single the other day and he was the same height as Queen Latifah. Not that there's anything wrong with short guys. But whenever a woman says Morris Chestnut is fine, people always say "He's short" as if that makes him not fine

...end of rant

Since when is 5'11.5" considered short? That's above average for an American man. Queen Latifah is just a bit under 5'10".

I think the problem with Chestnut is that earlier in his career he was listed at around 6'2 or 6'3" (and he played some tall-looking athletes on screen) so when people met him they thought he was "short" in comparison to his movie image.

Since Gabby Union is around 5'7" (plus heels), Charlie Murphy around 6'1", then Chestnut would appear to be in the 5'11-6'0" range.

:hmm::confused:

I was going to ask the one question I always need to know about, " Black movies ", but with a little googling, I found my answer . . .

" The groaning triviality of the dialogue works against the cast and director Bill Duke, as does the sermonizing voice-over narration by the lead, Morris Chestnut. "

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::(:(:(:(

This is no way a jab at anyone, but seriously, I mean FUCKING seriously!

I REFUSE to watch a Narrated movie, I find narration in a movie to be not only insulting, but robs viewers the chance of stimulating interpretation of the film, it's meanings, and it's characters.

I think it's shameful so many black directors and producers treat black audiences like second class movie goers.

Once again I am absolutely disgusted by the low grade cinema slopped from Hollywood's feeding trough of crap to the open hungry mouths of non-discriminating inconsequential African American movie snakers who do not demand a full meal but salivate at the prospect of flavorless soup and without skipping a beat whisper, "Please, sir, I want some more."

Morris Chestnut's character is the model for a husband.

How can you decipher if he is the, " Model " black husband when you were spoon feed his every waking thought and motive. You do not KNOW that character, you know what you were TOLD about that character . . . in fact, FROM that character.

I'll bet it wasn't even fruitful exposition.

Just like Soul Food,

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY

AHMAD and family stand over BIG MOMMA. A respiratory and machines emit constant beeping while enhancing the sound of her labored breathing.

Ahmad:
" Big mamma was sick. "

NO FUCKING SHIT SHERLOCK! SHE'S ON A FUCKING RESPIRATORY WITH IVS UP HER YING YANG!

From Soul Food,

AHMAD: One reason we were so tight...
is 'cause we always had Sunday dinners at Big Mama's.
That were a tradition started down in Mississippi...
when old folks met at church to talk smack...
and chow down on some good old soul food.
Big Mama kept the tradition...
when she and Granddaddy moved to Chicago.
Holidays, of course, were bigger.
More folks, more eats, more souls...
more soul food.
People would be rolling in from all over.
Like Uncle Remus, always hittin' folks up 'cause he was broke.
Before Granddaddy died, he owned a barber shop...
corner store, and a Laundromat.
Not bad for a black man in those days.
Rumor has it Mama Joe's got a big stash of loot hidden away.
Mama says that's a myth.
We used to always have eating contests...
which the Reverend would always win.
He'd split after he busted slops with my mom and aunties.
I can still see my dad...
Iookin' like he wanted to break Reverend Williams' neck.
Last but not least, there's Big Mama's brother...
old Uncle Pete...
who ain't left his room in years now.

WTF! COLIN THAT SHIT!

That's why Brandon Hammond ain't did shit but an episode of the West Wing and a recurring role as BLACK BOY on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, NO BODY WANTS TO HEAR HIS ASS TALK AGAIN!

Why is black entertainment so famished for originality, and lacking in creativity.

It's not the fault of Jews in Hollywood, or big wigs in the music industry.

It's the low tier passionless African American consumer who buys shitty records and patrons classless movies based upon the our supposed, " BLACK A-LIST ".

Fuck a narrated movie.

^^
Why bother responding to something that is baseless and so far off? Narration or not has nothing to do with the quality of the film. And the narration is minimal in the film

Why did you feel he was the, " Ideal " black husband?

It is relevant to a paper a, " Friend " is writing. I of course have no interest.

I will send you a PM so that I won't put any spoilers in this thread. Then you can come back and comment LOL!
Oh, I said "ideal husband" not "ideal black husband"

FUCK IT I am going to discuss the movie. That's why I didn't come in the thread till I watched it.

It bothered me when I read your comment. I don't think it was the message that the movie was trying to bring out but I am glad that you made that comment because you left out all the other good men in the movie and went straight for the Holywood ramance novel steriotypical good man or the man that you can never get good man. You might want to look at the different variety of good men in the movie.

"ideal husband"
So in other words. One who you mentally abused, disrespects, that you fail to submit to, one whose words you don't value and that you throw out the marital home claming that it's your house. The same man that makes less money than you and who can never satisfy you, whose passions and desires are not important enough for you to let him peaceful enjoy them much less share them with him. So in other words the man who is wrong for you since he is now a failure as he no longer makes the big money or not agressively pushing for the big dream and lifestyle that you desire. You can listen and follow the advice of others but not the one about keeping that very man. The very man that you can easily throw out of your house (not our house).
