I use Avast anti-virus. The free version. Some people believe that if it isn't free or a commercial product it isn't as effective. WRONG! Had not had a problem in 4 years since I started using it on all my machines. (8)

Norton is too heavy handed and nosy as hell on computers IMHO. Doesn't bother everybody but it annoys the fuck out of me.

I also use the Comodo firewall and it's anti-spam utility. Both free with a small foot print. You didn't ask but check www.comodo.com and be plesently surprised.

At any rate, I bumped into the link and it for the fam. I'm nice like that.

How do you feel about counterspy? I have had it and it works really good on my comp??

I think they are all effective depending on the sites you tend to frequent. I use Windows Defender and so far, for the sites I frequent. it's been pretty effective against stuff that might try to get at my systems.

Now if you tend to go places where a lot of warez, porn and hackers lurk and love to test shit out. like the IRC, Torrent joints and stuff, you might need something stronger and Counterspy should work for you.

But again, they are all as good as the latest attack. If they can stop it, you're good. If not, make sure you got a backup.
