No, you’re not imagining it — package sizes are shrinking

chips are the worst..im buying names just to feel like im getting something..no more name brands for me...if your gonna more im fine with that just keep the same size amount...but nah im good i aint gotta eat that

Agreed. Marking up the price is fine. It's the added insult to injury with countless brands and products shrinking stuff and increasing prices. It's funny watching them market and advertise their "brand new packaging" and "easier to hold bottles" and shit like that.

When you glance at store shelves and see prices you're NOT interested in paying for stuff that's considerably smaller. 10% here, 20% there on name brand shit.

Exactly!! I go to mom n pops restaurants to eat and the food portions are the same in many places and prices are increased... im just fine with that same product different price.. i get it...easier to hold in your hand.. damn.. straight bs!!

I hear you on that. In what world are adult shoppers / consumers supposed to be thrilled at "great new packaging" as a selling point? Do they think people are clueless / out to lunch? I sometimes think they're banking on people who don't give a fuck and just throw everything on the debit or credit card, regardless if it's reasonably priced or not.

I take a look at some of the flyers locally and the "big sales" (prior to all the inflationary bullshit of late) were several dollars more than some of their competitors' regular, everyday sales. All these glossy, colorful flyers for sales which are NOT deals. The fuck? What a waste of paper ... weekly ... yearly ... constantly ...

agreed!!

Good point - as in you have to buy extra ingredients (because product count has decreased), or find alternative brands and items of same / similar ingredients (to try and save money).

When the recipe says to use a 32oz can of X and they only make 28oz cans now, it just fucks up everything. The serving sizes, the flavor (because the ratios are messed up), the texture, cooking time & temp, the nutritional content... Since the off-brand products come from the same factories as the name brands, they have to shrink too. Otherwise they'd have to source the old size containers and wouldn't have the economies of scale to deliver a cheap product no matter how much they skimp on marketing.

Oh shit - that does suck re: off-brand / name brand / same factories, etc.

They stay fucking things up for real.

Simple math that most don't wanna do.

Buy 1 get one free isn't a great deal if the per unit price is more than at some other store.

Exactly.

At work we have to purchase items once weekly. A few coworkers are tasked with doing that on Mondays.

We have had to remind one coworker in particular to stop buying the SMALL sizes of everything. She's notorious for thinking she's getting a good deal, but ends up buying the small versions of everything with per unit prices that are quite a bit higher.

She doesn't like buying the bulk versions as she thinks they "cost too much" despite being a much better deal.

A lot of times you're paying more for the packaging.

Luxury brand name WATER . Sold in glass or aluminum containers. And people really think they are living better.

That spring water is really just municipal water distilled (boiled). Anyone can do the same at home.

Agreed.

Frustrating seeing all the products with package changes / re-designs, etc. "New and improved design" ...

Yogurt brands are notorious for that ... so many cutting from 750 to 650g and upping prices.
