No One Showed Up to March for Rekia Boyd Last Night

Last night in New York City's Union Square, a modest crowd of about 100 people (depending on who you ask) showed up to rally for Rekia Boyd and Black women and girls who've been killed by police. The rally, organized by #BlackLivesMatterNYC, reflects much of what we already know about the value placed on Black women's lives.

The narrative on deadly police violence continues to exclude women, and precious few are willing to fight for justice both within the community and outside of it. A judge, this week, acquitted Rekia's killer, Dante Servin, of all charges. But Rekia's name will not spark a mass movement.
In the same city where thousands flooded the frigid streets months ago in the name of Eric Garner, few could be seen. We sent a photographer to capture the crowd. The images are a somber, moving reminder that the work is ongoing. Thanks to Marino Mauricette.

Correction: The crowd was originally estimated between 30-50. Event organizers report about 100 attendees.

We need to get this more national attention.

I think that's where the disconnect is. Attention and action are not the same thing. We'll rant on twitter and social media all day but when the rubber hits the road no one will get off their asses, or pull out their pocketbooks, to do anything.

That's really fucked up but tired of marching some ofher course must be taken

I seriously doubt it...:smh::smh::smh:

I'll said it again,where were they when black women was getting their asses kick by white police officer,last summer....You had one dragged from her apartment and the officers stripped her naked and then arrested her...:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

:hmm:.... The call should be for, reform/overhaul the justice system.. Unitl the police culture is changed, we will continue to have these senseless killings..

two years ago i said we needed a voice....everyone on here disagreed :(

That's the problem though. Everyone says what we need and what we don't do but don't do shit about changing it. We just point the fingers and hope someone else does it for us.

And its crazy because in 2015 our voice can be heard so much easier now and spread so much faster with social media. But instead, we'd rather take selfies on IG and talk about bullshit on Twitter.

I will say though people are using Facebook to their advantage. I always get quality information through there on my timeline. There was a time when FB wasn't worth a shit either.

And i still disagree. Leadership for WHAT? Unless you're all willing to pick up arms and go kill whites then nothing will change. That doesn't need a leader. It needs cooperation. Neither will happen anyway.
