Verzuz makes comeback with battle between these iconic hip-hop labels
Taylor ArdreyUSA TODAY

Verzuz, the competitive music battle series created by industry giants Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, is returning with a live event featuring two prominent hip-hop labels.
Cash Money Records is going head-to-head with No Limit Records at ComplexCon in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Founded by executives Birdman and Slim in the 90s, Cash Money is hailed for amplifying acts such as Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh and Juvenile. No Limit came from the brain of Master P, bringing artists like Snoop Dogg and Mystikal.
"Verzuz is BACK — live at #ComplexCon Las Vegas. Cash Money VERZUZ No Limit Celebration," the announcement said. "One stage. Two legendary iconic Labels. History is about to be made."
It comes years after the platform appeared to go on hiatus. The last battle promoted on the Verzuz Instagram page was reggaeton pioneers DJ Nelson and DJ Luny in 2022.

What is Verzuz?

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland's Verzuz gained cultural prominence during their virtual hit battle on Instagram during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The series evolved into battles or "celebrations" highlighting legendary artists from a diverse range of musical styles, including R&B, hip-hop, gospel, reggaeton and dancehall. The idea eventually moved from social media to live events.
Popular Verzuz battles include Ashanti vs. Keyshia Cole, Snoop Dogg vs. DMX, and Brandy vs. Monica. One of the more memorable in-person music standoffs starred hip hop collectives The LOX and Dipset at Madison Square Garden in August 2021.
The show birthed multiple viral memes, the most notable being Jadakiss taking digs at his opponents before performing his verse on Ja Rule's "New York."
