It'll catch on. English premiership games are already gaining BIG TV numbers on FOX broadcasts. I give it another 5-10 years. The champions league final (it's like the superbowl in Europe but bigger) will be the most watched championship in sports on Television outside of the superbowl.

It'll never catch on...It's like that one guy said unless you get soccer to be a poor American game, it will never take off.

Suarez isnt any different from the mulattos who make rap videos saying the Nword all the time(entire rap industry).

Suarez clung to the fact that his grandfather was a black man the same way these mulattos claim white people viewed them as black.

Evra played this right. He never retaliated and took the high road. Suarez provoked him at least twice in the original incident and by refusing to give the obligatory handshake, showed the world that he had not learned his lesson.

As far as the age old question about soccer's importance in the US, I like to explain it this way. Every country around the world uses a sport to define "manliness". In Canada and maybe Finland, it's ice hockey. In the US it's gridiron. For the overwhelming number of people in the world, it's football. There may be other sports, but for the rest of us, it's on the soccer pitch that we see ourselves defined.

The Eagles are growing in strength. USA Soccer is growing in it's maturity and they will one day challenge for a top level spot in the World Cup.

For A.C. Milan it stand for Association Calcio. Calcio being the italian word for football. "Associazione Calcio Milan."

F.C. stands for Football Club.

F.C. Barcelona, Manchester United FC, Arsenal FC,

Thanks for clearing that up I started watching soccer when Senegal beat France some years back. I was in college and had 2 Senegalese roomates them dudes went nuts and woke the whole damn house up.
Where you suprised by the outcome of the African Nations Cup ???

Fam,

For us none soccer heads how big is this incident? How big/popular are the players involved? Is this on a lebron not shaking kobe bryants hand level?

It's big because of the teams involved. Manchester United v Liverpool is arguably one of the fiercest sports rivalries, not just in football, but in the world. Therefore the attention it brings is massive.

To use Kobe and Lebron as parallels, they're not exactly the two best players on their teams, (Suarez might be for Liverpool) but they are definitely notable players for their respective squads.

I'm an Ajax fan through and Through and I must say am disgusted by his recent show of behavior and how he is still at Liverpool amazes me. :smh:

We're definitely on the right path. What the "casual passer by" fan (especially the older generations) fail to understand are the differences between the NY Cosmos era, and today...

The MLS.

While it certainly isn't on par with the world's greatest leagues, EPL, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, etc, it's giving the next generation something to aim at, at that's something no previous generation in the histroy of this country has had.

I see more and more kids today playing football on pitches, basketball courts, baseball fields all year round now while the other sports are taking their breaks. The more incredible thing is that it's not just subjected to suburban kids anymore.

There are spanish kids, black kids, asian kids, white kids, all ready to kick a ball around for the passion of the game. The moment we understand that football isn't a suburban sport, and we start to get into the inner cities, it's game over.

Our talent pool will be something special in this country.

But most in US Soccer understand the time ahead of us.

I was. The Ivory Coast we're certain favorites to win it, with all the attacking power they had, but they choked big time.

Such is the beauty of football. You just never know.

To quote Zambia's head coach: "It was written in the stars."

I still believe that the AFCON is not the same without Nigeria and Cameroon, but they shot themselves in the foot this time around.

Liverpool have no one to blame but themselves. This is a man who bite another player on the neck on some Twilight shit, has caused disharmony wherever he has gone, is a known diver and cheat and yet Liverpool still bought him?

You reap what you sow.

I'm gonna put something contencious out there.
My understanding of episode was that it was Evra that started the name calling and then Suarez made it racial.
Now the purpose of name calling in sports is to upset the opponent and put them off their game.
Now isn't it the case that Evra started the shit and couldn't deal with the retalliation and went crying to the authorities?
Now the way I see it, is Evra started some shit and when Suarez came back at him then he went to report Suarez to the authorities.
Now I don't doubt that Suarez is a racist sonovabitich, but it was a bit of a bitch move to report him to the authorites.

My thinkig is he should have dealt with it on the pitch, either my skilling him up, or cussing him out or knocking him out.

During the World Cup cup final between France and Italy, and the Italian player said some shit to Zindane, he said fuck it and headbutted him. To this day,he has never said what the dude said to him. There's something honourable in that, even though others may think otherwise.

Depends on the meaning of catch on...because I been hearing this since Pele and the NY Cosmos. And now this Beckham guy is here...or is he?...because I have not seen him.
There is a team around here...the Revolution,I think.

Reminds me of my favorite saying about soccer in the USA...'it's the sport of the future, and always will be'

Any popularity gains coincides with immigration gains.

There are too many other sports here...baseball,football,basketball,hockey,auto-racing,golf.

It will battle track and field,candle-pin bowling and fly-fishing for attention.

Well, I said this because championship finals are being broadcasted on regular television now versus 20 years ago it was offered only on pay per view in America.

The biggest issue right now is the fact that the sport is seen as a girly suburban sport. Once the sport takes hold in large cities and towns the sport will grow from all kids play to all teenagers and young adults play.

Also with the way the USMNT plays attacking football now, I think our academies will develop much better technically gifted players.

People from uruguay are Indians decent so they are not white. There are mixed races in Uruguay but they ain't white.

Self hating, ignorant wanna be CAC does even know where HE'S From yet feels empowered to try & talk down to that man.

I SEE WHY he was cheering RIGHT IN FRONT of him to the fans after he fed him that L Hoping that bitch would act froggy.
 @ Evra's teamate not wanting to touch his had for the handshake after that juvenile bullhsit @ the beginning of the game.

I Still wanna know exactly what happen in the tunnel @ halftime.

Good point but I think right afterwards, it was said that Zindane said that kat said something about his sister or some slick devicive racist shit about his NorthAfrican fam he had, trying to get that reaction.
