there are definite cultural differences but I think whites idea of beauty being thin is a recent shift..

when you look at the european history you find the "rubenesque" period

these were nobody's skinny minnies...it wasn't until the 60s and 70s and the Twiggy era did we start to see a shift to thin as the standard of beauty among whites..

Blacks in general never made that shift as culturally black women are just thicker and meatier in general..breasts, hips and booties..the more the better..thats always been the standard of beauty among MOST people of color.

Only in the last 20 years has there been a shift in white america and an appreciation for thickness and thats mainly due to the rise of hip hop and black pop culture pushing that influence.
