If i upload a video to my Google drive account, Can i watch/stream it on the Nexus or is it only going to give me the option to download it?

You can, but when you stream the video, it converts it into a low quality video. The same quality you get when you watch those 240p Youtube videos.

Oh ok. Do they have a fix for that?
For now, I think you're gonna have to download the movie file first on Google Drive on your Nexus 7 then watch it. Or stream it in a very shitty quality. I use Splashtop Streamer to watch videos from my computer to my Nexus 7. It works well as long as you have a good internet connection. Download the app from the Play store and on Windows/Mac.

Yeah, GDrive is for storage, not streaming. It's gonna force you to cache media even if you don't want to. It's great at the storage bit, but If you want to stream, Dropbox does it beautifully... and Minus^^^, looks interesting.

Yea, with Drive it only lets you download a part of the movie at a time. :smh: Ill try dropbox and minus

That dropbox worked like a charm. I  now I just need to get more space and I'm straight!!!

Why don't you just upload the video to your device hard drive and watch it and then delete it when you are finished - works easier for me - will be watching Copper later when I am on the subway and dont have wifi.

thats all good but with such small storage space...its always good to have some solid streaming options...

Agreed and I have netflix and HBO GO on my Nexus but when it commes to reliable movies and TV shows I want to see I upload - watch and delete pretty much on a regular basis - because it doesn't have 4G finding a fast reliable WiFi connection that will stream off of Dropbox is too hit or miss if I really want to see a movie -

BTW I have the 16GB and never have space issues.

I use a combination of Dropbox, and my home network to stream movies and shit. I also copped a OTG cord and a 32 gig usb stick so I can dump a bunch a shit on there and when I want to watch a flick I just plug it in.

Thanks for this -= just ordered an OTG uploaded Nexus Media Importer - have the Disk Drives - I think I am all set

fam the 32 gig is not needed. You will spend less with an OTG and a memory stick.

I was only joking about selling/upgrading. I'm good with my 16gb. I am however leaning towards something like this as an external storage solution. But I'm going to look into your way first.

Will check the vid later but can this wi-fi hard drive go with you on the go or does it need to be plugged into the wall?

they just pushed an update today. 4.1.2.

only difference i notice is the homescreen can go landscape mode now so you can hold it either way. closing apps and switching between screens seems a lil faster too. spoed to improve battery life.

if you're rooted, click no when it asks you to repair root back to stock or whatever. the update will still go thru and you'll still be rooted.

It's wireless. Charge it and go. Claims of 4 hour battery life. Can transmit to 3 devices simultaneously. There are other brands out there with larger drives, but this one is like $60 for the 32gb on Amazon. Don't know for how long.

The first one that I was looking at is the Seagate GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage 500 GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive.

I must have missed the repair root part because mines became unrooted and I tried to re-root and it failed, so I had to flash back to stock. I keep denying the update but I'll give it another go.

man personally i say fuck this update to be honest...

pros: homescreen works in landscape, device is definitely a lil faster

cons: downloading some apps from some alternative markets gives you a "app closing because it may not have been purchased" message. i never remember seeing that before and saw it twice since the update. also, luckypatcher stopped working so i cant crack any apps anymore.

i could be wrong but i think this is one of those minor updates where google tells you about the lil fixes (landscape homescreen) to make sure people apply it but dont tell you that the main reason for it was on some anti piracy shit.

Are you sure the update didn't return your device to stock? Try re-rooting and see what happens.

Yeah the update was sneaky man..it unrooted my shit and made it look like it was still rooted by still having superu and busy box but both were not functional. I finally fixed the problem by flashing back to stock and downloading an app called voodoo ota, and then rooting. After that is done I update to 4.1.2 and it keeps the root.
