The 4/20 Verzuz between Method Man and Redman had everything you’d expect. There were hits like “How High” and “Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers,” performed live by the longtime friends. There were guest appearances by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, Inspectah Deck, and Cappadonna, Def Squad’s Keith Murray, and more. There were endless shout-outs to Staten Island and New Jersey. Then, there was the unexpected: A FaceTime call from Russell Simmons in the middle of the showdown. No, that wasn’t a hallucination. After the pair reminisced on their Def Jam days, they got a FaceTime call from founder Russell Simmons, who appeared to be in pajamas and in bed. Simmons has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by 20 women — including former Def Jam executive Drew Dixon, a main subject of the 2020 documentary On the Record. Talk about ruining a high.
Method Man and Redman did acknowledge the day’s guilty verdict for Derek Chauvin, the police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, an unarmed Black man. “You get what you put out there,” Redman said. “He deserved every fucking bit.” The pair also paid tribute to two iconic New York rappers who died earlier this month, DMX and Black Rob. They performed their 1997 collaboration with DMX and LL Cool J, “4, 3, 2, 1,” in honor of DMX.

Last night was how VERZUZ should be done!
That was what stood out to me, the PROFESSIONAL performance those two put on. The back and forth was flawless, delivery was flawless, the cameos. Plus, they appeared to be having a MF'n ball. Still killin it like that w/ 30 years in, Meth was right, give em their flowers now while they can appreciate them.
When I think about it. Most of the rappers I grew up on, and was able to see live in the past few years, had really dope, crisp, clean, nearly flawless sets/shows.

Beenie vs Bounty is still the best to me. They set the formula for what Verszuz is now and introduced the masses to how Jamaican shows get down. I still watch their Verzuz on a regular basis especially the part when they're piggybacking off each other on the Showtime Riddim.

EW can exclusively reveal that Grammy-nominated rapper Redman will appear in the upcoming second season of Starz's Power Book II: Ghost, reuniting him with Method Man, his frequent music collaborator, How High costar, and Method & Red sitcom partner.
Method is a series regular on Ghost, playing slick, high-priced lawyer Davis Maclean, while Redman is joining the Power spinoff in the guest-star role of Theo Rollins, Davis's imprisoned older brother.
Theo and Davis used to run the streets together, but now that little bro has escaped that life and become New York's top defense attorney following his victory in the Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton) case, Theo is questioning if guilt is still enough for Davis to keep his promise.

The duo has been making music together for more than 25 years, and just recently squared off in the latest Verzuz battle. The partnership made its way into the acting world with 2001's cult stoner comedy How High and 2004's short-lived sitcom Method & Red, which lasted only nine episodes after creative disagreements between Fox and its stars.
Not to take credit for the Ghost reunion, but speaking to creator Courtney Kemp during season 1, EW threw out the dream casting idea: "Don't we need Redman?" Kemp responded with a laugh, adding she "hoped" to see that happen.
Well, it will when Ghost returns, but not before Power Book III: Raising Kanan makes its series premiere this summer.
