New Yorkers: Who Was The Most Celebrated/Hyped DURING High School Out Of ...

To both of your quotes, family I was there and I remember that shit like yesterday.. I already knew who Bron was from Cleveland recruting him since 10th grade, that's when John Lucas use to bring him to cavs practices and he use to rap cats on that team.. no lie.. but I was telling niggas in the gym lenny cooke was way over rated and dribbled too fuckin much and was a chucker of massive proportions he ain't going no where.. I just didn't know it would be Lebro James to end his career.. You gotta understand all the scouts where there to see Lenny play not Lebron

You know Jimeke? Cornilius?

I know you must have played for Riverside to then lol
Cats was going back and forth:D

I gotta see Jimeke by face but I def remember Cornilius, riverside was aight but Guchos was better. I remember Mr Lurch from riverside always being on some homo shit
:smh:[/QUOTE]

That's the second time I've heard of a pro team inviting a high schooler. Lucas invited Kobe in to workout with the Sixers. Word was he was giving Stackhouse the business, but...

...yeah.

Lenny Cooke's game seemed too unpolished.

This is easy, Kenny Anderson, wasn't on the cover of SI but on the back pages of players to watch when he was in 6th grade. The other guys that are listed were no where near as good as him. For the old heads, picture him in HS going against Steph or Telfar, no contest!

As a person who watched kenny play ball since he was 12... The thing about him was this... as a freshman at Molly... Kenny didn't even start... He would come into games at the second half and drop 24 or 25 pts per game... Handle wise... :smh: There wasn't too many people on the planet who had handle like him... I mean, think about it... He had the all time scoring record in NYC for HOW MANY YEARS??? That's not hype... In high school, he really was the shit...:yes::yes: And he was a pretty good pro as well... Unlike Felipe... But since we're talking NYC High school Basketball, My favorite High school Ball player I've ever was Jamal Mashburn at Hayes... when he was a FAT BOY with handle and a J... Imagine Big Baby Davis with a legit handle and three point range... That was Monster Mash at Cardinal Hayes High school...

He's at Cincinatti... He had a decent year... He might have been Freshamn of the year in the Big East... I'm not sure though.

Cincinatti?..out of all schools, why there?..dude was one of the most hyped in the city after Telfair..

He waited until the spring after his senior year and apparently he had a bad rep and possible eligibility questions. So bad that damn near everybody that had been recruiting him backed off. For instance stories would say he was gonna commit to Maryland one day and then you'd hear that Maryland had stopped recruiting him. It went on like that for a while and I can't think of another recruiting situation like it.

I Colin'd most of this thread, but if the discussion is NYC Hoops and hyperbole, I did not see the name PEARL WASHINGTON mentioned once. Kenny might have gotten mad hype coming out of Molloy, but it was pale in comparison to Pearl. In fact, only cat I think got more hype than Pearl was Lebron James. And that's only cause ESPN was not the sports giant it is now back in 1985-6
