As usual, Nina Turner is right.
Mayor-elect Mamdani is an incredible campaigner and I hope his vision to provide provision for New Yorkers passes city council and gets support in Albany.
That said, endorsing Representative Jeffries to be the next Speaker of the House does nothing to help that. This is not about a primary, but his spot in Congressional leadership.
This comment is detrimental to the path towards progress for all Americans, those who are struggling under conservative local and state governments and look to the federal government to pass legislation to better their lives.
Maybe New Yorkers can afford a Jeffries speakership, but that’s a luxury.
Folks in Cleveland can’t afford it, folks in the south can’t afford it - what they deserve is the opportunity to organize for better without a popular, supposedly progressive figure in the party throwing cold water on the idea that the Speaker could be someone who isn’t funding genocide, defending folks involved with Epstein, and standing in the way of Medicare for All.
