New Trailer: Dame Dash Studios (w/Kanye) Presents Loisaidas

People complain about these types of flicks, but failed to support "Just Wright", because it wasn't "real". C'mon, people, either we want positive flicks or we don't.
:

I really liked Just Wright. Me and My wife went to see it on a date night.

What we should be doing is more co=operative type shit.

Instead of people trying to write, direct and star in their projects.

Tyler and Oprah both have studios

We have some great directors like Singleton, Lee and others

We have the star power

And there are some great black writers and black stories to write

We have enough black wealth to get these projects produced.

It's time to start doing projects that encompass all of that and black folks working together instead of trying to keep it all individual.

Spike started out hating Perry but they have buried the hatchet. Its time for Spike to take the Clint Eastwood approach and focus on directing.

John Singleton has directed some very good films but is now directing episodes on Empire.

A Co-Operative could get the types of films made that we say we want.

Also, I gotta clown some of you for expecting something different from Dame. Really?! WTF did y'all really expect from Dame, "The Autobiography of Jane Pittman"? This is Dame Dash!!! This is like letting a fox babysit your 4 chickens, and coming back and being surprised that one's missing and the fox has feathers and blood on its face!! Honestly, what the hell were you guys expecting from a man who's damn near 50, and still says "pause"? Talk to me, I'll try to see your point.
:smh::lol::lol::lol:

Just Wright just didn't look good to me. Give me a School Daze, a Soul Food, a Best Man.....

I don't mind the hood flicks. Paid In full is a well made film. It just feels like they're relying too heavily on the action and violence and not enough on the story. I guess that's what made The Wire so great. The balance.

We've just seen this too many times. I grew up on shit like this. All the way back too....probably Snoop's Murder Was the Case. In 2015, its hard to get up for the violent gangster flick starring a bunch of rappers.

I do want to echo what others are saying here about those of US with some loot producing too many of these damn "hood" flicks.

But in the end, it's really up to US to go out and support other themes/genres, etc. featuring US. Or "forcing" those said Black forces to produce those films.

I (among others here) keep saying that we have too much capital and smarts to keep making and buying into shit like this.

Otherwise,
We're going to continue getting shit like this.

I think the window for these films has come and gone. Not just the one minded content but the geographically specific overtones as well. I dont think a significant number wants to see cliche'd hood flicks with low level acting talent filled with overstated NY accents, jargon and themes. Low production value, bad acting, tired storyline.... There just doesnt seem to be anything to carry this flick.

First of All Just Wright Is about BasketBall, So thanks for bringing up the fact that in The Black-Filmatic-verse we are not only thugs all the time but Athletes as well.

Tyler Perry Movies do so well, because he plays on 3 things. The Church, The victim complex in women, and melodramatic comedy.

Movies Like the Best Man Holiday generally fall into the above mentioned categories, but its success could generally be due to the fact it has familiar characters and black people are conditioned to be loyal.

Only way "Positive" movies as you put it would have a chance is if we break away from all this "Drugging dealing thuggish shit" we have been programed to like.

If Black "positive" movies as you put it, was as prominent as all these hood movies then They would be looked at with derision just like "positive" ones are now.

It will just take time to reprogram our minds.

I write scripts for trailers for this girl in Atlanta and I swear every time she wants me to add a gun or a scene with some one being shot at. Every time I I say "is this what we have been reduced to?" And she responds "its the only way to get black people attention"

How can something that simple go over your head?

Ain't nothing wrong with hood flicks.... props to a black man doing it on his own with out begging master for acceptance. He can build from here with this one. Respect to the black man with no fear.

We all hope this is a training ground for better movies. But probs for creating SOMETHING, better than the thousands "trying to put something together".

Is that all we are? Hood shit, and TP shit with abused black women, neck cranking black women, church scenes, and the light-skinned simp-hero?

I guess I'm wondering do black film makers have a choice if they want the best chance at turning a profit.

I refuse to believe our interests are that fucking narrow.

One of the things I told myself I would work on this year, that I believe is my biggest weakness is to stop " believing people actually want to better themselves, and that they would actually change if given the opportunity."

But we could add the record breaking success of Empire into this has discussion.
Blackish would NEVER be expected to receive that type of response. But the potential was there bec4of the success of power.
I've been watching everybody hates Chris really re-runs and I'm angry that I didn't support it more.
Look back on how th h r y did the berie Mac show dirty...
I agree with cousin Jay for the most part...especially concerning the audience saying one thing but supportING another
I think black panther is going to be the ultimate barometer to finally prove or dis prove this.
But I also think ideally we should be albe to touch all genres as long as they are GOOD efforts.

More ghetto movies??? C'mon with this trash. Why not at least make something with Black Wallstreet millionaires trying to get into something. The hood, drug, shit is old and played and keeps the stereotypes alive.

Like you ain't gonna watch it you bi polar bitch

Is it promoting hood shit or giving a voice to a class of people who feel their voices aren't heard?

I don't know but I will say this: Dame Dash has produced more movies that I liked (State Property, The Woodsman, Paper Soldiers, Paid in Full) than movies I haven't liked (State Property 2, Death of a Dynasty) so I'll give it a chance...

Between rap and hood flicks...

...I think the hood's voice has said all it has to say. THIS is why many of us want something different.

There is more to the black community than hood flicks, and TP flicks.

There HAS to be.

100% co sign.
We don't need yet another wanna be Scarface . Or a new Superfly. Or another Menace to Society. Or another Juice. Or another New Jack City. Or another The Mack. Or another Hustle & Flow.:hmm:

There are so many more stories about us to tell BEYOND this type of violent, thug lovin', live for the streets shit.

Let's face it; Black Panther definitely has a lot riding on its shoulders...

I gotta clown you for saying that. Dame knows more about business and art than you give him credit for. Yeah he produced State Property the film, which was extra hot garbage, but he was also a producer on The Woodsman - a film that starred Kevin Bacon. So yeah, it is in fact reasonable to expect more from Dame in terms of the quality of the films he's putting out.

If you want to put it into business terms, he HAS to make something like this to appeal to the largest group that will make him enough money to help fund the next project. Unfortunately, that group's desired genre isn't exactly cultural shit that isn't degrading. Now, if this is successful, maybe he'll do something "better", but I doubt it.

I don't accept that he 'has' to make a cheap, crappy film so he can finance his next project. Assuming that this film is crap (which we both do)he could have made a very different, still lower cost, film without putting out such an awful product. Plus, you can make an appealing 'urban' film without it being degrading. The two are not one in the same.
