New Orleans for ONE DAY: Where I Gotta Eat???

:lol:
Y'all fucked my trip up. I'm still here. I "missed my flight"
So I have to pay for my flight home and get reimbursed later.

First thing off the plane was Cafe Dumonde. Beignet's was good as anything I have ever had in my life, but fuckin pigeons were pissing me off. This white dude was feeding them bastards IN THE EATING AREA.

Then we went to Praline Connection, food was OFF THE CHAIN (I had the big platter and red beans and rice), but this sassy chick almost beat me down for pronouncing it "pray-leen" instead of "prah-leen". Funny stuff.

Walking around for a bit, we passed this jazz/blues spot and I was hooked. I forget the name of it but Ellis Marsalis is playing there tonight. I ditched my coworkers, they went to the airport, I stayed at this spot for hours, until at least 1am.

My flight leaves at 2, so I'm at the hotel now, trying to figure out breakfast (gonna do Lil Dizzy's on Max-Diggy's suggestion) and if I can eat lunch a couple of hours later without blowing up. Maybe Port of Call, or "Dooky" if there's no line?

Y'all made this trip hella bomb.
I'm coming back after New Year's. I have never met kinder Black folk in my life than the folks, young and old, I met in NO yesterday.

The jazz spot was Snug Harbor, its the sister restaurant of Port of Call. Did you go to Ray's Boom Boom Room or the Hookah spot? Frenchman is the Bourbon for the grown folks. I am glad you enjoyed it and definitely bring more people next time you come.

it's called "southern hospitality" my brother... and that's what we're known for around the world.

sure, you'll get capped in the hood, but that's true for all hoods. 99% of the black folk in NOLA welcome you to NOLA and do so with open arms (women) and a firm handshake (men).

Man... I never fall for that bullshit.
From the second I got off the plane, getting the *headnods* from the Brothas, to sitting in a restaurant and when the lady calls you "sweetie" you know she means it...
I imagine that this is what Atlanta was like before the late 90's explosion. This cat at the jazz spot last night told me "This is going to be the new Black Mecca"

I know I didn't get out to the real hoods, so I'm not seeing the whole thing, but I feel like with some direction, and some resources.... New Orleans is gonna be the spot.

true dat. it's nothing to be walking in NOLA and EVERY black person you pass says, "how y'all doing?" or "what's up my brother?" when i moved to jersey and spoke to people like that... mufuckas looked at me like i was from mars. :yes::lol:

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I don't even think Chinese Kitchen is open anymore. But that is the truth. One second you will be in a nice neighborhood, turn the corner, you in the hood hood.

yeah, NOLA is just like that. and truth be told, in the french quarter, one wrong turn could land you in the middle of gunfire or a fag convention. :smh::hmm::eek:

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Man I love NOLA Ive gone to Bayou CLassic 4-5 times and cant get enough, that party Dougie Fresh and Biz throw every year keep me coming back. And the last time I went to Jazz Fest I swear I almost got the pass to fuck around due to there being so many beautiful ass women there!!!

??? aint no bamas in New Orleans, you must've been in Baton Rouge

a country accent doesn't necessarily mean she's from the country.

i'm not from this part of the country so even though the women live in the city of new orleans, they still sound "country" to me.

get my meaning?

oh you from up-north

Damn I just noticed this thread.

Now you wanna talk about a good hole in the wall? Who remembers Mule's--pronounced MYOOLAZ.

Man I used to go there all the time as a little boy. Po-Boys were off the hook.

And what about Gambino's on Washington Ave and them doberge cakes?

Damn I miss my city:(.

If I could maintain a standard living there that I'm now accustomed to, I'd even risk the criminals(NOPD) and the hurricanes.

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

for a GREAT burger, port of call is THE place to go. if you're gonna stay in the french quarter area, and if you want some fresh seafood, go to Cafe Maspero (on Decatur right across the street from Jax Brewery); there WILL be a long, long line for dinner. and don't forget to order the $3 strawberry daiquiri (32 oz) at Maspero... not much alcohol but TONS of flavor.

for breakfast, go to Lil Dizzy's on Esplanade and Claiborne-if they still serve breakfast.

if you're walking on bourbon and want to sample some awesome red beans & rice, hit up Court of Two Sisters.

Pampy's... etc. are all good places as recommended earlier.

Damn boy--you know your spots. I would've recommended all these myself.

I know one of the cooks at Lil Dizzy's.

What yall about the daiquiri shop at the foot of Carrolton by the levees?

I don't agree with the rest of the poster's Praline connection is over priced and average at food at best. Try Mother's and Jackson st. station(crab & crawfish out of season).
