Netflix: The Get Down Main Trailer(Latest)

up to episode 5. so far, not as good as the first season. But not disappointed, couple of good moments.

Warning this may contain spoilers

I'm not a fan of them using animation this time around, I think it takes away from the griminess of 70's New York. From the articles I've read this is due to Jaden Smith not being available, if that's the damn case, maybe it's time to write him out or have that subway scene signal his death. If they jump from the grimy 1970s to the equally, if not more grimey 1980s then I don't want cartoons, I want a gritty recreation of Reagan era, New York.

They dug into Shao's background and you really feel for him and you get an understanding of the circumstances that created hip-hop and the circumstances of the who people created it. I think the second part took away some of the cliche happy ending stuff and ejected a lot more sad and tragic elements to the show, showing the cutthroat nature of the music business and the drug game and the desire for poor kids to make some money on both the legit and street sides of things.
Mylene and Zeke's relationship starts to lose it's innocence more as they both push towards adulthood as the 70s draw to a close. We see how showbiz begins to take toll on Mylene, her family as well as Zeke. the second part takes place in the fall of 1978 and the backlash against disco would begin to take steam in 1979 and disco would begin it's descent into irrelevance, that is going to have an effect on Mylene, while the genre of music that Books is tied is beginning to explode and that will have an effect on Zeke and you also see Zeke being pulled in many directions, he loves his music, he loves his girl but he's been accepted into college so what does he do?

Also the closing scenes of the last episode felt very final, more like a series finale than a season finale.

When will Part 3 (Season 2) of The Get Down be on Netflix?

the-get-down-part-3-season-2-770x433.jpg

The second part of The Get Down is out with five new episodes totally just over five and a half new hours but for many, that will only quench their thirst for a little while and may will be asking whether or not The Get Down will be coming back for a second season or a part 3. Let’s find out.

The musical show is based on a group of kids growing up in the Bronx during the 70’s. Crime is rampant and they use music as a refuge from the struggles of life. There are multiple people’s stories we follow although the two biggest are Mylene Cruz and Ezekiel’s. The show is mainly known for its stellar soundtrack.

The Get Down Part 3/Season 2 Renewal Status

Official renewal status: Not yet renewed (Last updated: 04/08/2017)

The big question here is whether the show will be renewed or not. We’ll go into a little more detail behind a few business technicalities that may hold up a potential renewal but purely on plot, there’s obviously places for the show to continue on from.

Personally, the show has become a bit of a mess in places. It’s obvious that Jaden Smith was unavailable for much of the filming as he’s notably absent and instead pops up in his own scenes sort of half-assed. Add to that the plot wraps up quite nicely with a dot dot dot, much like some of Baz Luhrmann’s other work, it could be conveniently ended right now.

In an interview with
Indiewire, the cast was also somewhat curious as to where a new season would lead to.

When will Part 3 or Season 2 be added to Netflix?

If they’re splitting up seasons into two and releasing them on the same schedule as parts 1 and 2, it’d be likely we’ll see a new season by the close of 2017. Given how much goes into making this show, don’t be surprised if we see it go on a one or two-year hiatus while another season is produced. That could potentially mean no new Get Down episodes until 2018 or 2019 at the earliest.

Could The Get Down Be Canceled?
From the early days of The Get Down, we always knew it was going to be an expensive project just because of the glitz and the content it was producing. To this date, it’s thought that the series is the second most expensive of all time for Netflix with only The Crown topping it. The series is produced by Sony on behalf of Netflix and it’s not the first series Sony Pictures has produced.

The series is produced by Sony on behalf of Netflix and it’s not the first series Sony Pictures has produced. Bloodline is the most notable show produced by Sony Pictures but that has been canceled and for reasons that could apply for The Get Down too. Bloodline will be canceled after the release of season 3 because of costs compared to the benefits of the show. The Get Down is infinitely more expensive so could follow the same route. Ultimately, it’ll depend on viewing figures which of course, Netflix is notoriously bad at releasing.

Once again this may contain spoilers.

If you've watched this or read my previous post, you'll know that the final scene of episode 11, feels very final very much like a series finale, not like a season finale. You don't get the feeling that this show will be back, because it seems like they closed the door, not locked it, but closed maybe it can be opened again but it feels like they closed the door on it.

From the articles I've read there have been delays, set conflicts and bloated budgets and I've read that the numbers are not exactly off the charts even if the reviews are mostly positive. That being said, I do hope that the show does return or we are given a 2 hour movie to wrap things up but being realistic, the show's budget is bloated and if it's true the numbers aren't there, that scene of Books in 78 intertwined with Books in 96 might be the last we see of this crew. I hope I'm wrong but this show is probably going to go down as one of my all-time favorites.

Will 'The Get Down' Return For Season 2? There's A Very Good Chance

Last summer The Get Down hit Netflix to much critical acclaim. The musical drama, which takes place in the 1970s Bronx, follows a group of teens as they try to reach their dreams and musical aspirations. Unlike most other Netflix shows, only the first half of the season aired last summer and the second half will be available for streaming on April 7, but what happens after that? Will The Get Down return for Season 2? Fans certainly hope so.

Thankfully, it seems the odds of another season happening are pretty good. Show creator Baz Luhrmann sat down with Vulture last month to discuss the future of The Get Down and he's hopeful there will be a second season. "To be honest, we have already developed the opening of the next season," he told the outlet. "Sony and Netflix have been very driven about having a second season. There has been no question about that. They really want it."

However, although the want for a second season is definitely there, Luhrmann said he doesn't think he'd stay on as showrunner if the show does continue. Instead, he hinted that they already have a showrunner in mind to take his place. "Way back in the very beginning of this, and I won't say who it was, but there is an African-American director who is absolutely the best of the best for this, and always was," he said. "I tried to get him involved and I couldn't. I don't want to be tease-y, but we're all trying to hope to make that work out."

So even though a second season hasn't been officially ordered yet, Luhrmann feels confident that once they find a new showrunner the second season will be a go. Hopefully that won't take long and fans' minds can finally be put at ease about the continuation of their favorite show.

For now, though, they can continue to look forward to the second half of the first season finally premiering. Although the second half will be shorter than the first (five episodes instead of the expected six), the finale will be a bit a longer than the other episodes, clocking in at 75 minutes. Also, fans will definitely see a change between the first half and the second.

"The first half is a little bit more naïve," Luhrmann told Vulture in the same interview. "It's a little bit more childish. Whereas the second part... as they jump forward [from summer 1977 to fall 1978], the style of show has a little bit more edge and complexity."

They just pissing me off with Jalen's character.
They pushing the gay black male thing hard these last few years.

I have to agree. I can't see Black and Latino kids in 1977-78 being tolerant of a gay dude. Turn over to The Breaks (another hip hop based show set in 1990) and the closeted gay rapper J. Mic is suicidal and hiding out in a hotel after being called gay in a rap battle. You can't tell me 1978 is more tolerant of gays than 1990. Hell the kids refer to Books as a "disco faggot" when he flops on his first try at rapping at Grandmaster Flash's party.

Somebody is obviously letting Jaden make Dizzie a retro version of his actual self and it doesn't fit the time period or the demographic at all.

Dope

Sick of the gay shit

Cadi was a corny dealer, nigga would have never made it in the late 80s 90s

Shao fan, smh. Just kept fuckin up.

Mama, man fuck her bitch ass

Bravo on this series
doubt it gets another season though this shit cost 9 figures to make

it was pretty good overall... agree on the gay shit it's gotta stop.

they took me way back when they was popping playable records off of cereal boxes I still have one or two of them lol

they spared no expense that's why it was so authentic. from the actual music to the scenes and the backdrops
they did it right it's just expensive.

Finished with all of Part 2. Wasn't really feeling all the green screen used, but I get it. It'll be difficult to fully recreate late 70's NY IRL.

That gay storyline with Jaden.... and Shaolin being all cool with it :hmm::hmm: Surprisingly, one of the main goons (Little wolf) is gay IRL.

Maylene :rise:

The cartoon portions were corny to say the least.

I definitely can't wait until Season 2 ,which they will be getting, they just needed to lock down a Showrunner.

One of the main complaints is that the show has an inconsistent feel. I wonder if that'll be fixed one Baz is out of the way?

Started watching season 1. I'm on episode 5.

So far, solid show overall.

But I can honestly say that I do not like any of the characters on the show except the father that play the sax.

And Shaolin Fantastic is such a big boy :smh: That annoys me about him because he could be cooler.
