NBA's 50 greatest: most overrated/underated?

Man you guys who think pips is overrated need to blazing that cattle manure in your spliffs.

i think you're getting needlessly defensive on this topic. maybe because you're confusing "overrated" and "sucks" as being synonymous.

they are not. scottie pippen can still be recognized as a good player while being overrated.

I'm going off the top of my head, but surely there was one year during that second run at the three-peat. Look that up since you're good at that.

were you going "off the top of your head" too when you claimed that scottie pippen lead the bulls in rebounding?

make some more stuff up, since you're good at that.

Since you say so, I guess it must be true. Interesting, someone who doesn't know the difference between being mistaken, which I absolutely and without shame admit to, and flat-out making stuff up.

i dont ask for bans but this is the 1st 1. kobe should be what?? i'm a laker/kobe fan as you can see by my lakers vs spurs thread tonight but to put kobe over MIKE! my brother you have to chill in the corner for a while until you get yourself together

i'm kidding about the ban but serious about the kobe thing

relax.

april69 is the jemele hill of BGOL.

overrated - james worthy.

i remember when that list came out and the ceremony and i still can't believe he made it. his whole career was getting feeds from Magic on the break and doing that one handed dunk.

Don't let my uncle hear you talking like that. His two favorite players were James Worthy and Charles Oakley.

Scottie Pippen missed the first 30 or so games during the second year of the second three-peat and the Bulls were barely a .500 team. When he came back, the reeled off a double-digit winning streak immediately on their way to winning the second championship during the second three-peat.

scottie pippen missed the first 35 games of the 1997-98 season (the 3rd of the 2nd 3-peat).

during that stretch, the bulls went 24-11 (.686). you claimed "barely .500".

furthermore, scottie pippen's first game was on january 10th. the bulls had NO double digit winning streak in january. nor did they have a double digit winning streak in february. the bulls did have a double digit winning streak of 11 games in MARCH. 2 MONTHS for you is immediately?

you chastised another poster for not including facts. but you recklessly made shit up (scottie pippen rebounding), were inaccurate (referred to 1997-98 as 1996-97), and misrepresented fact (claiming scottie pippen's immediate return resulted in a double digit win streak) to bolster your weak points.

:smh:

You talking about postup- baseline spin move- leave you frozen Worthy?

you need to re-think this position. james worthy's incredible quickness up the floor and ability to run the floor are the reasons why earvin johnson compiled those assists. not the other way around.

just as byron scott's ability to fade to the perimeter and hit the open J is the reason earvin johnson was able to compile assists on simple lead passes up the floor.

I don't know about underrated, but Bill Walton is my most overrated... I think his hall-of-fame status is questionable with the amount of games Mr. Oden Sr. played.

worthy had 3 ways of scoring:
on the wing of the fast break getting the rock from magic

that spin on the baseline where he would ever so slightly hook the defender

and he had a jumper from 18 from the elbow extended.

i know it's not all about stats, especially with a deep Lakers squad but,
Worthy Stats
dude didn't warrant a number one pick and he was average at best, but a star cause he was part of Riles' Showtime.

he did have that one playoff game where he dropped a triple double. other than that… :hmm:

top 50? 50???:smh:

take another small forward without james worthy's ability (and quickness) to fill a lane, and earvin johnson's pass is rendered moot. speed up the floor and tremendous finishing ability.

that spin on the baseline where he would ever so slightly hook the defender

there was nothing slight nor subtle about james worthy's hook.

he did have that one playoff game where he dropped a triple double.

james worthy's improvement in the playoffs is well documented.

oh man, the lake show had PLENTY of finishers. whether it was b scott spotting up, cooper on the wing, thompson filling the lanes, or kareems slow ass on the secondary break. worthy was ahead of everyone cause he ain't play no D. dude was always leaking out looking to run. that's why as a 6'9" small forward he only averaged 5/6 boards.

was being sarcastic.;)

james worthy's improvement in the playoffs is well documented.

i remember that monster game he had where he dropped the the triple double. but he did step up playoff time.

but you mean to tell me that James Worthy is one of the 50 greatest players. 50? out of the history of the NBA at that time? 50? i'll give him top 100. maybe…

Overrated = Penny Hardaway (They gave up Shaq for this bum). Fuck the injuries, he was never that good. People were just lusting for another tall PG since Magic retired too early.

Underrated = Dennis Rodman (Best non-scoring player ever). He a defensive wiz & always know how to outplay big men.

nah.

james worthy didn't pull as many boards because he had to split them between kareem abdul jabbar, kurt rambis and earvin johnson. and later kareem abdul jabbar, ac green, earvin johnson.

Blasphemy! Did you even watch the showtime Lakers? I could see if you said Kurt Rambis road coattails. But big game James? You are reaching.

this top 50 list dropped in 1996.

if they did the list this year, what new players would be included at the expense of players already on the list?

here is my quick list of new players on the top 50:
tim duncan
kobe bryant
kevin garnett
allen iverson
jason kidd
dirk nowitzki
steve nash
maybe paul pierce

not right now, but they will be: lebron james, dwayne wade, dwight howard, chris paul, deron williams.

doubtful. but you never know. if other undeserving players like bill walton could make the NBA top 50, why not tobe too?

Kobe is easily a top 10-15 candidate now. If he stays productive, he could be a top 5. Don't get it twisted, I can't stand him either but he may be the best scorer the game has ever seen.
