Should the NBA MVP be based upon more with player that leads team to best record or player with best NBA personal stats?

IMO this year comes down to LeBron, Kobe, and Wade as the finalists.

Kobe's Lakers will have the best record but Kobe's rebounds/assists/Steals are less than Wade and LeBron although he has better shooting/free throw percentage.

Last year LeBron had better numbers than he did this year but was never seriously considered because his Cavs were an average team. Remember last years discussion about how Chris Paul should get is because of the Hornets amazing run towards the end of the season... then again, KG got no consideration for MVP for leading the Celtics to best record in the NBA.

This year Wade seems to be in the same place LeBron was last year - stuck on a mediocre team. Cavs will probably best in East - finish 2 or 3 games behind Lakers for best record.

So how much should attention should be given to team records in giving MVP awards out.

Personally don't think team records should have much impact on MVP voting in ANY sport. But I do think a more accurate depiction of the stats at hand should be taken into account. Also, less empahsis on points over the other categories.

For example, a guy averaging 30PPG could actually be HURTING his team if he's just jacking them up at 40% from the field. On nights when the teams' high scorer has 35 points on 12-33 shooting, that man is not very valuable. In fact, you could substitute ANY NBA player and he could get those numbers given the same amount of shot attempts.

So before a guy is called Most Valuable based solely on PPG, we need to take a good hard look at those points and how he got them. Whether his team won or lost doesn't matter, but whetehr he kept his team in the game or LOST the game for his team should
