Guess it's not going to happen for Sam Jones. Makes the HOF but can't make it as a sticky like Betty White and John Madden on a black forum.

You just did.....

Only thing for me I don't remember him playing.

Nah... I didn't. Posted this when he passed about three weeks ago. No complaints or criticism. I was disappointed that this trailblazer was getting his due respect.

I don't remember him playing either, and I'm probably one of the boards older members, but I try to stay up on any history and pay my respects.

Sam was a great one. Makes you wonder if someday LeBron or Jordan will be forgotten.

It makes you wonder doesn't it? Whether LeBron and Jordan will be forgotten the same way Sam Jones was

The NBA not having a setup like NFL films, the NBA players of yesteryear don't have the film on them so that younger people understand their greatness. There is so much video of Jordan and LeBron so you can find video and watch him in awe, but it's not like that for 60s and 60s players.

I mean Pistol Pete was a legend that I completely slept on because there's only grainy video of Pistol Pete before he tore his knee up and became a shell of his former self

That knee injury did to him what the torn ACL did to Derrick Rose

Dude was a lights-out shooter and Bulls-Eye with the assist, but young people today don't know anything about his greatness because there was no real good film on him, add to it he died in 1988 at just 40 years old

Still, Sam Jones deserves to be recognized more. And though I never saw him play, I've heard his name bandied about enough to know how much he was revered as a player

RIP

Imagine Pistol with today's three point line. I saw the game where he scored 68 against the Knicks ( yea I was very young ). Many of those shots were today's 3 pointer.

Back to Sam, check out some Youtube vids. He was fierce for his day. No wonder Boston won every year.

I was lucky enough to have Mr Jones as my gym teacher in 94. Usually you’d go to gym class and play all the sports, but all we ever did was play basketball lol. Surprisingly found out, he also was my father in law’s basketball coach at North Carolina Central. Small world but a great man.

RIP Mr Jones.

I believe footage like this being made available will help ditch the talk of eras.

Ball handling, shooting, vertical lateral movement transcends from generation to generation.

All the greats of each era could adapt in/to any era.

I am not familiar with Mr. Jones, but his play looks”any era” great to me.
