She is way smarter than I am. I would have gone down swinging. She took her loses now and her gpa stays in tact. A shitty gpa really fucks with your future. You will have to rattle off 20 As to get a respectable gpa in the end.

Yep, happens every year around this time. Not just black students too.
Most of the time, it's because they flunk out/don't graduate and are too embarrassed to tell their family.
They can get sympathy by going missing rather than getting cussed out for flunking out.
Yep, parents are far happier to have them alive than the alternative.
Can I tell you a story?
I graduated high school and left home. It wasn't a bad home, but I never felt comfortable there. I hated their rules. I hated their rules because the rules didn't apply across the board. So as I'm going to the community college, they're asking me about my grades. I told them I was an adult and if I felt compelled, I would tell them. They "cut" me off. It's a community college! Federal grants pay for an entire semester, and the state grants had a brother doing alright. I didn't need their help.
I played nice enough to get their tax returns every January, but in reality, I didn't need that either.
But going to a community college may be a tad different than attending an Ivy League school in NYC. Sometimes you have to play those away games.
There's a lot she seems to be leaving out in the article if you read between the lines. The move to Williamsburg where "everyone looks so interesting", sounds like this bitch was on drugs and needed to be around her element. The $750 room she paid for with work study and "modeling" jobs, probably means she doing "artistic" nude photoshoots and low-key selling pussy. Just another story of a small-town girl trying to make it in the big city...
I can kind of understand where she's coming from, going from a small town to a prestigious university where all of your family and friends are expecting great things from you (which may be unrealistic).
Then you show up on campus and you're just another student, no longer the star student anymore.
She should have just been upfront with her mother about how she was feeling and withdrawn from school for a semester or two and gone back (that's what I did) rather than this attention-whoring shit.
It's only the first year. How do you get burnt out taking first year classes?
In most of the high schools around here, you're graduating high school with an associates degree. Her butt sounds flat, so I can't even pretend to be concerned.
What was your process in being withdrawn? Was it the first semester, or was it the first academic year? Did you have a mental breakdown? How did your parents handle your setback?
Man....let me tell you about community college....it's the new gold rush for 4 year schools. You got kids in there that are the best of both worlds, they got the smarts to get into college but the balls to not really give a fuck. I'll give you an example, I went out to PGCC, talked to a couple of cats, one of the dudes was at Berkley the year before, didn't like the vibe out there, came back to Maryland to get his mind right and enrolled in community college....Another dude was at the naval academy, didn't like it, came back home, took some classes.
Now if you are recruiting for an HBCU this a fucking golden ticket. 1 year ago these dudes choose top tier spots over us, now, they just sitting here, like free money!!!

Burnout can happen at any point from first semester to right before graduation.
For me, I was honestly burned out in my first year (starting from high school) but stuck it out until my 3rd year.
I decided to withdraw in the middle of my 3rd year after just getting by the previous 2 years.
I did not have any kind of mental breakdown, but just knew I needed to take time off.
Of course, may parents did not really understand it and were not happy that I was no longer in school at the time.
Looking back, honestly, that was the best thing I ever did though.
That time off allowed me to reevaluate everything in my life and when I went back to school I killed it, making Dean's List every semester after that and graduating with Honors.
The mother is a good woman. I read her tale of events and it was nice piece. She understands her daughter is nuts, but she isn't crazy. If she were to flip out, it would drive her to opposite end of the pool.
If you can make peace with your daughter being a stripper, you're officially a good parent.
