Was it worth it? Meaning the 6 G's and would you want your kid or kids to have the same experiences you had to be in your position?
Pretty spot on but:
The services set the cap on how much is allocated towards personnel….. The services identify objectives to focus on (the Army focuses on 5 yr cycles, POM 26-30) & POM money to each initiative i.e. training, personnel, sustainment, (PEGs),etc. The Services then go to OSD & make their arguments regarding their budgets.
The services dictate how much money or risk they’re willing to take regarding dollar allocation to personnel ops. Once the budget is set, services will be taxed/penalized heavily if they use money allocated for personnel on training (as an example).

It was worth it. Kind of like @sinistercane said earlier, I joined because there wasn't shit in my hometown. And like with most jobs when you first start you work for jackasses. The more time in, move up in rank it became easier. I wouldn't have anything against my kids wanting to join if they wanted. I completed my Masters in Information technology management with no student loans. Actually, I received a $2000 a month stipend while I was in school. I was in the Navy and not on the front lines. I did do a tour in Iraq for 7 months.
They've all lowered their requirements cause I know of a hand full of fools who have entered the arms when they barely made it out of high school;IEP,adhd,bipol,weed addicts and some more shit are shipped off and I said WOOOOOOW!!!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have no choice but to lower the requirements very smart people do not want nothing to do with the military but at the same time Republicans and certain states it’s fucking up the education system. Some of these new generation people cannot find Alaska on the fucking map, and or some of them think Alaska is a fucking island. If aliens were to visit us right now, they will have a good time in saving us because we are so fucking stupid.
Entertainers do and have quit entertaining. Athletes do and have quit to pursue other goals. They both usually spent decades preparing to be in those industries. They are paid handsomely, do you agree? They usually aren't killed in the process of performing their jobs. They usually dont' suffer from PTSD, do you agree? They usually don't suffer severe injury. They usually go home after a performance. Not the same.
If the NAVY is hurting on recruiting. That’s a big problem and affects National Security.
Majority of the jobs in the NAVY is high tech.
I know a lot cats are like Fuck The Military.
But you have to remember the Government had a draft up until 1973 when President Nixon ended. This country has had a all volunteer military since then.
Lots of folks in this country has gotten spoiled. The Government can bring that draft back if necessary.
And the way this country is going, the Government might go further and do a conscription for military.
That means they can induct children into the military as young as 5 years old. They will not be in combat until they reach the age of 18.
They will spend the ages of 5 to 18 training.
If that sounds familiar, that’s how they get Imperial Stormtroopers in “Star Wars”.

This country is overloaded with children in the foster care/orphanage system along with kids in the criminal JV system.
And this country is planning on eliminating the Public Education system.
You gotta do something with those kids if you can’t afford to send them to school. And yes, the Government will ban Home School.
Plenty of recruits ready to serve….

The Government/Family Court routinely strips young children from ther family from newborns to 17 year olds.
Like I stated earlier, the Government has plenty of recruits sitting in the Foster Care/Orphanges thru-out the US. Go look up the figures or just call your local foster care system. Those children are Wards of the state. In other words “Property”. Just like prisoners.
And there is a large amount of children in the Juvenile Detention system.
Another example is now that they have banned abortions. The prisons are full of fertile young women sitting there doing nothing. The Courts/State can give them an option to get artificially inseminated and give birth to 3 healthy children, sign them over to the Government and they get a reduction in sentence.
This is the Government, like I said the Government can do whatever it wants.
